Just want to get some discussion on it
Is it overused? Too much information this day in time? It is making the game boring?
Should there be limits on the use of the shift with the way its used this day in time?
Sure it was used in the past but this day in time, its overkill, should the game get involved and get it modified?

Hitters have adjusted to it by hitting record setting amount of homers. I’ll take shift and homers over no shift and typical grounders.

I don't mind homers but the days of the hit and run and stolen base are a relic of the past
Now, cannot blame the lack of stolen bases on the shift - other thoughts on that one
But the game needs more then an outcome of a SO, HR or a Walk which we see that too often in the game .
Shifting was always part of the defensive strategy, but this day in time its overkill - its taken away alot of the small ball
Would a guy like Juan Pierre or Otis Nixon even get a chance this day in time. Willie Randolph or Harold Reynolds, another couple of names
Too much information and a less entertaining product -- can go on but enough for one post
Not everybody should have to be a HR hitter and the game we saw in that 1969-93 division title era was the best for my liking
And, starting pitchers most of the time did figure in the decisions - another issue

I'm lost, or stupid, or both, but what is the connection between the shift and homers?

I think he's saying that because of the shift, hitters are now making a much stronger effort to elevate batted balls. Everyone is going for a steep launch angle to go over the shifts instead of through them.

I've actually been working with my 11-year-old son on launch angle. He makes hard, consistent contact but hits too many ground balls. He's a big, strong kid, so it's something the coaches brought to my attention. It's actually working. The key is to learn to make the uppercut swing without dropping the shoulder. He's doing quite well so far. Point being, there's something to all this launch angle stuff.

He dreams about it, though, and I'm not snuffing that out. Cal Raleigh is from here, so anything is possible.....and yes, you'll all get tickets. LMAO

Will do! Honestly, I just hope both of my dudes have great lives. I'm truly not one of those delusional parents, but I can tell you that it's an easy trap to fall into. They play baseball, football, and basketball. I'll tell them to enjoy it now, because the odds are against it going any farther than high school. I'm not pissing on their dreams, I'm telling them the truth. I owe them that.

I had a friend growing up who was a great athlete in a lot of sports, and his dad would actually go to all of our games and heckle the hell out of him nonstop. The dad was such an unhinged lunatic nobody would ever say anything to him. Everybody used to tell the guy to ignore his dad because his dad was just an a-hole, but he looked up to his dad so much it was crazy. He never amounted to anything in life, he's been working the counter at the same bowling alley for30 years now, that's been his only job. And he still loves his dad to no end no matter what. Pretty crazy. His whole self confidence was totally destroyed by that idiot.

If they understand that then you raised them right and I have no doubt you have.
