Some of these picks in the late rounds in the baseball draft become stars - where were Cal Ripken Jr and Mike Piazza drafted?
But its not smart money to draft pitchers real high given the money it takes to sign these high first picks, better to go with the good every day player
Don't really like a projected utility player picked 21st, but hey, he might be better than that - never heard of him so who knows

One of those kids they liken to Yelich. Seems to be a huge gap here that I’m skeptical of because scouting has gotten so much better. That is why team building with prospects is no longer taking 10 years. This seems like a ploy to dig deep and get as many players to sign as possible to fill our voids in the low minors. Quantity not quality since we have no international signing ability. Can’t say I love the theory over grabbing a pretty sure bet in Langeliers and going after 3 more high potential guys and basically calling it a day. Feels very Wren-ish getting a Gilmartin type ceiling with our second pick. Really hope they didn’t screw this up and we end up with a few lame utility guys and a catcher. From what I’m reading, the Braves took a lot of high ceiling, low floor types in the later rounds. They were looking for players they could sign, because they need to replenish their farm system, and they can’t do it via intl free agency. Also, there were quite a few high upside guys they took that were intending to go to college, but signed with the Braves because the Braves could meet their asking price, which is probably why the Braves drafted players in the early round who will more than likely sign for under slot.

If the Braves can get one or two guys in the later rounds that is a very good player along with the catcher that is not a bad draft
I am sure this will not be a Carter Stewart redo -- I really hate him and do not wish him well, hope he burns out in Japan
He and that agent can burn in that unmentionable place for all I care -- who as a baseball fan does not HATE Scott Borass
The 21st overall pick I do not like, but the rest of it is undetermined

Really hope they didn’t screw this up and we end up with a few lame utility guys and a catcher. I will be glad if they get their catcher though cause they do not grow on trees If Langliers can be a Bob Boone with maybe a little more 21st century offense we should be very happy Just glad they did not get another #$%@#(@) pitcher with that 9th overall pick - though I hated the 21st pick from what I read Maybe he will be better - who knows. Note that Rex Hudler was once a first round pick -- wonderdog -- and there have been worse guys picked in that round Steve Chilcott, Tom Goodwin, Luke Hochevar, etc etc the list grows of early 1st round busts -- Oh yea, Todd Van Poppel who did us such a favor having to pick Mr. Jones - now that was one for us no pun intended I love Todd Van Poppel for dissing us - we were so much better off

If they can do that they had a really strong draft.

DOB on Twitter:
#Braves signed first-rounder Braden Shewmake, the Texas A&M shortstop who was the No. 21 overall pick in the draft. They’ve agreed to terms with all of their top 10 picks, among others.
