Phillies looked like they drafted good in first round Bryson Stott looks like a very solid hitter and was projected 9.
Nationals get what many Braves fans wanted, Jackson Rutledge.
I also like Quin Priester and Daniel Espino looks really good too. Daniel was picked 24th so we had a chance to get him.
Cubs and Atros fans gotta be steaming right now for their first round draft.

I never get too hyped about the MLB draft. It's so different from football and basketball. With baseball there are so many "can't miss" first round guys that never see a day in the majors. To me it's usually a total crapshoot.

I'm a bit surprised we went two college players, and position players at that. Braden Shewmake looks like he'll get plenty of hits, hopefully the power will come along. He really swings through the zone. Shea Langeleirs for the love of God I hope he's not a miss. How many catchers have we signed that have failed? and with William Contreras struggling in May it might be the right choice for the Braves. His highlight on the draft barely showed his bat so I'll look more into his hitting. All the analysis I heard said Langeliers is a can't miss solid major league catcher. Supposedly a very safe pick in that regard. Yeah a pretty solid bet to be a strong defensive MLB player at a position where you need that. The only issue with this pick is the bat not being awe-inspiring and therefore not a sexy choice.

Glad they went for a developmental catcher who looks like a sure thing behind the plate
Not so sure about Alex Jackson and Contreras, we need to keep Flowers and B-Mac for a while the way it looks now
Hope he has more hitting upside than an Austin Hedges comparison though, need him to be a better than a .290 ish OBP guy & indications are that he can do better than that
I would be glad to have a league average bat that is consistent and has a .325 OBP with some pop- if he is that good a catcher and league average at the plate he is like Ender in CF, a real assett
As for the two college shortstops, I don't know got to wait and see - you can find talent in late rounds in MLB draft - its a crapshoot much of the time
How did we know that Soroka who was picked later in the first round in 2015 would have so much better stuff than Allard
And of course Riley picked at 41 seems to be a legit building block
Kimbrel and Simmons were third or fourth round picks in 2008 and they did better than most earlier picks
And, look at the 2017 prize Kyle Wright who is scuffling in AAA now, maybe he was brought up way too early cause he is not getting it done now, hope he is not messed up for good like Allard is, he does have better stuff than Allard so he might be back if he has not totally lost his confidence for good

So, is everyone happy with the selections? Did we make the right call giving up on the chance to have Kimbrel close for us? Who knows about any of the selections but come on -- did you really think they had a serious thought of spending what it takes for Kimbrel? Who the H owns this team - you know who - and for now that is not changing Even if and when the TV deal runs out I doubt there will be incentive to spend it on the payroll.

Braves took two-way player Michael Harris of Stockbridge High in suburban Atlanta with their 3rd-round pick. Switch-hitting center fielder and pitcher.
Braves took burly Texas A&M closer Kasey Kalich in the 4th round and Connecticut high school lefty Stephen Paolini in the 5th round.

(David O'Brien) In the 9th round, Braves took 2B Cody Miller from Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kan., which happens to be the late Darren Daulton's hometown and where I attended junior high and high school. My brother pitched for Cowley way back. So there you have it.

With their final pick of the day, their 10th-rounder, the Braves took Mississippi Gulf Coast (JUCO) center fielder Brandon Parker.

Honestly, the MLB draft is pretty much a crap shoot. Giving grades on picks that won’t materialize for 3 to 4 years doesn’t make sense to me. Guarantee you 23 teams didn’t get Fs for drafting players that weren’t mike trout back when he was drafted.

"How did we know that Soroka who was picked later in the first round in 2015 would have so much better stuff than Allard " If memory serves me correctly, I believe the overall consensus on Soroka was way more upside than Allard but because he was from Canada where they dont play year round , he was risky pick. Maybe sign ability ? I forget why he fell to the end of RD 1

One of those kids they liken to Yelich. Seems to be a huge gap here that I’m skeptical of because scouting has gotten so much better. That is why team building with prospects is no longer taking 10 years. This seems like a ploy to dig deep and get as many players to sign as possible to fill our voids in the low minors. Quantity not quality since we have no international signing ability. Can’t say I love the theory over grabbing a pretty sure bet in Langeliers and going after 3 more high potential guys and basically calling it a day. Feels very Wren-ish getting a Gilmartin type ceiling with our second pick. Really hope they didn’t screw this up and we end up with a few lame utility guys and a catcher.
