After this sweep by the Nats, I think it's time to shake up the pitching staff.
Newcomb has done everything asked of him via his demotion and bullpen assignment. I think he warrants another crack at the rotation.
Similarly, Minter and Sobotka appear to have made strides in AAA, whereas Winkler and Tomlin just aren't adding much to the pen.
Lastly, Gausman is a high ceiling guy who isn't a young prospect anymore, and frankly just never lived up to his potential as a starter. He has upper 90s gas when he wants it, so time for a bullpen stint to see if he can go Wade Davis on us.
Lastly, go get Kimbrel after the draft. Let's see how this plays:
1. Soroka 2. Fried 3. Folty 4. Newcomb 5. Teheran
LR R Touissant LR R Gausman MR L Blevins MR R Sobotka MR L Minter MR R Webb SU R Jackson CL R Kimbrel
Throw some spot starts along the way at Touissant and Gausman to keep Fried and Soroka's innings down.

Yes on all accounts.
We were on a national broadcast 4-5 weeks ago and one of the announcers said we had acquired Gausman because we needed a TOR type guy. He said Gausman was our #2 behind Teheran and ready to take that next step up. Sometimes you have to wonder how some of these people have a job related to the game at all.

Yeah but Snit thinks Gausman is just one of those starter guys.

Yeah but Snit thinks Gausman is just one of those starter guys. Yeah I'm quite confident he'll find a way to cock up the starting rotation (even if by standing pat).

Stuff in of itself does not make a good TOR type of SP, hey, look at some of the high draft pick underachievers
Luke Hochevar was worse than Gausy, and other top of the draft guys like Mark Appel and Brady Aiken, you know the rest of the story
And it was a blessing to the Braves that Todd Van Poppel did not want to sign here and we got an infielder by the name of Larry Wayne Jones as our consolation prize back in 1990 -- I will take that prize anyday
I would not draft a pitcher that high in the draft for the money you spend on these guys this day in time
And screw you Carter Stewart, cannot say I wish you luck in Japan

Carter Stewart was so butthurt that his draft stock fell to the second round that he jumped to Japan. This will not be a regular occurrence like the media is blowing up. Japanese teams can only have 4 foreigners per team and if Stewart flops they will back off this tactic.
Also Japanese pitchers are known for arm abuse. Dice k once threw 250 pitches in 17 innings. They had a kid who could hit 94 on the gun at 16 pitch over 700 pitches in a weekend, he could barely crack 80 by Sunday. This is not some trend, those reading alarmist click bait bullshit need to question everything you read in sports just like you do in politics.

I have yet to see ONE of the Japanese League starting pitchers ever be truly worth the hype & money that was posted to get them to MLB And, this goes back to the mid 90's starting with Nomo. Nomo, Dice-K and Yu Darvish, among the better of the Japanese imports had some decent and very good moments but all of them have had ups and downs, alot if it due to injury Look at some that just were not that good at all. Like Kawakami and the guy who signed with the Yankees, forgot what his name is it was some time ago Has Yu Darvish really been all that good, I am sure the Cubbies would like a re-do on his FA deal Nomo was up and down, and Dice-K, he was quite mediocre Can anyone come up with ONE of these guys who has been a real TOR rotation stud that lasted for say, 8 or more yrs or had a real All-Star type of prime for 4-6 yrs? Or, even a two or three yr period. Cannot think of one - pls correct me if I am wrong?
