Many years back on the old message board I suggested that manager try using Bullpen pitchers to start the game because he gave you a perfect Lefty righty matchup at the beginning of the game. People said it was crazy and that no manager would ever do it. Now it seems to be working well for Tampa Bay. The Braves are in a unique situation we have a lot of starting pitching Major League ready or really close. Our bullpen is absolutely horrible we do not have one gas that we can consistently count on. So I have an idea why not carry nine starting pitchers have a set 5-man rotation that only pictures five innings per game then have a four-man rotation that comes in in the 6th to Pitch Four Innings a game this would allow you to evaluate the young pitching and would also allow them 2 pitch enough Innings to stay stretched out and it would give them the opportunity to learn at the big league level you would also then be able to keep three or four Bullpen guys to use in spots when someone struggles the way I see it we have nothing to lose it cannot get any worse then our Bullpen is now and it would protect the starters arms by not having them pitch too many innings

or why not just put some would be future starters in pen and use them as you regularly would a bullpen since starters don't go 7 and 8 innings anyway these days.

That's another reason you just have 4 guys on the backend with a 5 man rotation and why you carry 3 or 4 short guys you still have leeway
