I like Wilcox but I'm not as up on the potential picks as I usually am.

I like seeing Shewmake on that list quite a bit. Seems to be a pretty high floor guy.

Waters .240/.337/.379/.716 (still struggling with consistency and too many K's)
Pache .268/.340/.431/.771 (pretty hot in August and September)
Camargo .312/.388/.516/.904 (in the hunt to win the batting title) Demeritte .294/.383/.620/1.003 (OPS over 1.000 and hasn't had one big league AB this year)
Mueller had another good outing today, his 5th straight good one since being sent back down. His walk totals haven't been terrible, but not good either. Probably keeping him from getting a shot over Touki and Smyly.
Bryce Elder started pitching in Rome this year, then went to Mississippi, and has now had 4 good showings in all 4 of his outings with Gwinnett.
Waters clearly needs at least another year. Pache, he just might be ready to take the job his second time around - I want him as my CF of the future. Camargo and Demeritte - could they get a chance elsewhere in a rule 5 draft kind of thing. I hope Camargo gets a chance elsewhere no way he should be behind Arcia. As for Mueller and Elder, they should get a look in ST - Elder does need time to develop but he should be untradable. And Wright did not do bad in AAA, who knows if he might get it together. I am sure that Smyly will not be back so these guys can compete for the 5th rotation job in ST. As for Touki - he has done more than I thought he could, I was expecting zilch from him and he has shown some good work finally.

As for Touki - he has done more than I thought he could, I was expecting zilch from him and he has shown some good work finally. Waters has struck out something like 129 times in about 400 AB's. That's a crazy amount. He has some major hot streaks and major cold ones, he's more up and down than Dansby. Pache is putting up good numbers and looks a lot better than ever before. I would assume that Pache is going to be in the plans for next season and that will play into how many of our trade deadline OFers we retain.
I don't know what Demeritte's contract status is, but Camargo just had a one year deal for this season. He has two more arb eligible seasons and is a UFA after the 2023 season. I believe that means he's totally free to sign with anyone anywhere after this year, as far as I know being arb eligible doesn't mean you have to stay with your team. I could be wrong but I can't imagine he would be bound to the Braves. And given his elite defense, no one can convince me he's not good enough to be playing every day for someone in MLB. He's been horrible as a utility player, he obviously needs daily AB's, but when he gets them he's good. The fact that we didn't trade both Camargo and Demeritte at the deadline completely baffles me. They both have to have SOME value right now, and the Braves obviously have no plans at all for either one. So why not get whatever you can? Maybe they'd end up getting something they'd never use, but if you aren't going to use the two players, why hang onto them? I was doing a lot of reading last night and ran across some trade rumors before the deadline, and one of them was trading Camargo for Richard Rodriguez. That would have been a lot smarter on our part, or packaging Camargo or Demeritte in some way.
I have never read a word about the plans for Elder, but he's obviously impressing and moving up the ladder quickly.
Wright has been good in the minors for several years, he just goes nuts between the ears when he pitches in the big leagues. As we've been saying, it seems like a sports psychologist like Smoltz used would be a really good idea. But what do I know, I'm just some mook posting on the internets!

At age 26 we can only hope he can get over the between the ears thing in MLB, the mind set is a hard thing to figure out. With Folty we could see his body language on the mound with the naked eye, could always tell he did not quite have it for MLB but with Wright we do not quite see that. Don't know what it is They have used other pitchers than him since he was sent back down so he has fallen in the ranks But if Touki can do something which I thought we would never get anything out of him, who knows about Wright or anyone for that matter. Hey they even got one good complete yr out of Frustrating Folty so you never know

A lot of these minor league pitchers give major league hitters too much credit. They pitch to everybody like they're Freddie Freeman. They're not. Obviously, they're better than AAA hitters, just not as good as guys like Wright think they are. I've always thought the most important elements of pitching were locating the fastball and confidence. Wright is deficient in both areas from what I've seen.

I am not going to compare Wright to all time greats but there were guys like Schilling and Randy Johnson who did not develop until their late 20s. Even Gaylord Perry did not develop till he was 27. Might have cheated a bit but he was not the only one. I do not know if Wright can be great but can't be possibly be a useful MLB pitcher if he can get those two things. Of course lack of confidence will be a back breaker 100 pct of the time. Can he at least show some progress hey we have seen some with Touki since he has been back.

AAA is divided into two divisions, the East and the West. Kyle Wright wins the ERA title in the East with a 3.02 ERA. Camargo finishes 2nd in the East in batting average at .326. Camargo made the All Star team and was named Gwinnett's MVP. If there's a god he'll be with another organization next year.
Wright 137 innings pitched, 137 K's, 45 walks, 3.02 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, .228 batting average against, 10-5 win/loss record.
Muller 79.2 innings pitched, 93 K's, 42 walks, 3.39 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, .223 batting average against, 5-4 win/loss record.
Waters .240/.329/.381/.710 404 ABs, 11 HR, 37 RBI, 142 K's, 47 walks, 28 SB
Pache .265/.330/.414/.744 321 ABs, 11 HR, 44 RBI, 97 K's, 30 walks, 9 SB Camargo .326/.401/.557/.958 386 ABs, 19 HR, 67 RBI, 73 K's, 47 walks Demeritte .282/.363/.575/.938 266 ABs, 21 HR, 57 RBI, 99 K's, 33 walks Kipnis .290/.390/.518/.908 193 ABs, 10 HR, 32 RBI, 50 K's, 27 walks
Kipnis quietly had a good season, another guy that seems like we should have been able to move him for SOMETHING, anything, at the trade deadline, given his veteran presents and the fact he was hitting.
Maikel Franco had a .451 OPS in the 10 or so games he played, I'm glad we never saw him in Atlanta.
Bryce Elder had a great season, he broke it up evenly between Rome, Mississippi and Gwinnett. He ended up pitched 137 innings and had a 2.75 ERA, his performance was very similar at each level. His lowest ERA was actually at Gwinnett.
Sean Kazmar Jr. is finally retiring at age 37, after playing 15 years in the minor leagues, the last 9 for Gwinnett. After all that he got 48 PAs in the big leagues.

There should be a hall of fame for guys like Kazmar. Hell, there probably is.

There should be a hall of fame for guys like Kazmar. Hell, there probably is. Dude played 1822 minor league games, had 7145 minor league ABs and a career minor league OPS of .679. I admire the heck out of that guy. If I could have done that I certainly would have been happy!

The Chop Country Message Bored lost a good one. Rico43 was his username. He would post minor league stats every single night like I did in 2018-19. I started posting these minor league updates before I knew that bored existed, but when I found their message board, I did take some pointers from him and was a little more detailed. He was very detailed in his stats, where I was more concise. Like he would go out of his way to post w-l, scores, and such, little did I know he worked with the Chattanooga Lookouts and was from my neck of the woods. So I thank him for his dedication to make peoples days a little more easier. When I was tired from work, people would come here and let me know they were thankful and that goes a long way. www.chopcountry.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10869
