.....and I'm as serious as a heart attack. The dude pitched forever, had a career WAR of 62, won 288 games, and of course, the surgery. I mean, why SHOULDN'T he be enshrined with that combination of stats and baseball notoriety? If there was ever a baseball pioneer, Tommy John was certainly one of them and he belongs in the Hall of Fame. (mic drop)

Pete Rose should be in the HOF I actually agree. Kind of. I mean, betting on the games is a bad offense, but he is the all-time hits leader. I read an article today about Tommy John surgery, and it just got me thinking about his career. That surgery has had a huge impact on the game, and he was the first, plus he had a long successful career. It just makes sense to me that he be in the Hall.

Pete Rose should be in the HOF No -- he knew what he was doing and he was a pompous azz to think he was bigger than the game And he kept on lying about it -- he deserved what he got

If there was ever a baseball pioneer, Tommy John was certainly one of them and he belongs in the Hall of Fame. (mic drop) He did have that dominant stretch from 1977 to 80, very solid most of the time He was 13-6 in 1988 at age 45 And he was not some no so good hitting team with the CWS in the 60's to 71, he was a very good pitcher with the White Sox -- people did not know as much about that part of his career He had one great yr in 68 cut short with a fight with a cheap shot by Dick Mc Auliffe -- 10-5 1.98. What if were able to pitch the whole yr that yr on a poor CWS team You have a point -- BTW what do you think of Jim Kaat -- long career, similar wins, similar career -- and he had a 25 W yr in '66 and a resurgence with some poor Chicago teams in the mid 70's -- durable guy and would have won more with some better teams

Yeah, like I said, I've got mixed feelings about Rose being in the Hall of Fame. On the one hand, he's the all-time hits leader, and on the other, he bet on the game and lied about it. On top of all that, he's basically a greaseball to begin with, which shouldn't affect his getting in.........but unfortunately, it probably does.

The dude pitched forever, had a career WAR of 62, won 288 games That's the problem. It took him forever to get just borderline numbers. That means he wasn't nearly good enough to be in the Hall of Fame.
It's not the Hall of Play Long Enough to Rack Up Counting Stats and Get In.

Thanks for sharing that, pap! It goes without saying that Dale Murphy belongs in the Hall of Fame, at least in my mind. He's 5 or 6 years older than me, and he was someone I admired. In '82 and '83, I was a college boy, and some friends of mine and I were huge Braves fans. They were in the NL West back then, and those races involved the Dodgers. Many is the night we stayed up late watching west coast games on the Superstation. Good times, definitely good times.
