Some pretty interesting stuff for July 2 in Braves history....
1963 In one of baseball's most memorable pitching duels, Giants' right-hander Juan Marichal and the Braves' southpaw Warren Spahn both hurl 15 scoreless innings before Willie Mays ends the marathon contest with a homer off Spahnie in the bottom of the 16th giving San Francisco a 1-0 win.
1969 Reds' pitcher Jerry Arrigo ties a major league mark when he hits his third Brave batter in the second inning of a 9-4 victory. The Braves also tie the major league mark by hitting five batters in one
2000 At Shea Stadium, Mets' fan Gregory Sweeney is arrested and charged with reckless endangerment after he throws a ball which Braves reliever John Rocker had tossed into the stands back onto the field. In a few day later, the 26 year-old Brooklyn man will be exonerated as Queens District Attorney Richard Brown concludes Mr. Sweeney had no criminal intent and was doing nothing more than following a baseball tradition of returning an unsolicited and unwanted souvenir.
And from around MLB...,
1869 The Forest Citys, a team which includes amateur players who do not want to be paid to remain 'pure', play the first professional baseball game in Cleveland, losing to the Cincinnati Red Stockings, 25-6, in front of 2,000 spectators at Case Commons. The club will continue to play next season and will become a charter member of the National Association Professional Baseball Players in 1871.
1903 Ed Delahanty, who once hit four homers in one game, goes over a Niagara Falls railroad bridge and drowns. The circumstances concerning the Senator outfielder's death are never discovered.
1930 Carl Reynolds becomes only the second player in big league history to homer in three consecutive innings when he goes deep in the first three frames of the 15-4 White Sox victory over the hometown Yankees. The Chicago outfielder's power surge includes two inside-the-park round-trippers.

Let me tell you something. If the Braves take 2 of 3 (or sweep 🤯) in New York I’m gonna change my name to TheThorCometh, cause I’m gonna be all about the Braves going for broke this year and getting Syndergaard. It can’t be understated how winning the series in New York would make the Braves legit contenders on all the books.
Right now the Braves have piqued people’s curiosity, winning in New York will have people’s attention.

Bullpen isn't that hard to come by, plus the Braves bullpen isn't too bad. Just gotta replace a couple of duds. Vizzy Minter Winkler Biddle Carle Sanchez Freeman Phillips That's not a bad bullpen.

Are you stoned right now by chance? They can certainly improve. They're bullpen is ranked 21st in ERA, but 9th in BAA and 10th in SOs (so that's good). What they really need to fix are the walks. That's what's been killing the team. Biddle, Freeman, and Moylan are killing the team in walks, and I'm good with giving other guys a shot. I know Evan Phillips is supposed to have good stuff, and relievers aren't that expensive on the trade market. A deal here, a deal there, and the bullpen could be a top bullpen. As for the bullpen I posted, like I said, it's not the best, but it's not the worst. It's an average bullpen. And if the Braves do make a run at the playoffs, they're gonna have some starters in that bullpen. Guys like Soroka, Fried, Gohara, Touki, Teheran, and others will be available.

I'm not sure if you've been watching all the games lately......the bullpen is getting worse by the day. Carle and Winkler are starting to come back down to Earth, and there's nobody else other than Minter who can shut anything down right now. Walks are still a big problem, but the guys are getting hit too.
I don't think good bullpen arms are very easy to come by at all right now. It's a universal problem that starters are going 5-6 innings, the bullpens are getting overworked and causing problems.

Ya, but I don't expect the bullpen to be lights out all the time. Carle had a bad couple of games, it happens. Winkler had one bad outing against the O's, it happens. Biddle has been solid the last month worth of appearances. Minter has been lights out for awhile now. I still think the Braves should give Phillips a shot, I don't know why they haven't. The guy has a 2.09 ERA in 38 IP in AAA, along with 13.5 SO/9 rate. Freeman and Moylan have been terrible out the gate and have remained so. When they went to guys like Sims and Wisler, they didn't do well. Not to mention guys like Whitley, Socolovich, Ramirez, Gohara, Fried, and Ravin; they didn't pitch well either. Those guys have been terrible, but Vizzy/Minter/Winkler/Carle/Biddle have been better than average. A guy like Hand from the Padres will be available and he's not gonna cost an arm and a leg. There are other guys too that could be available. Guys who haven't been overworked, or who are just good at what they do. They're out there. None of that, though, should be an impediment from getting a guy like Syndergaard. He's under contract through the 2021 season. If you got a chance to get a guy like that, you don't say no because you currently have bullpen problems.
