I say yes. 1. The extra rest would hopefully keep our arms healthy for late in the year and a potential playoff run. 2. We have a lot of guys in the minors who look primed for a call up. Why not start with allard and give him a cup of tea in the majors. If he pitches well great keep him up. If he's avg or below send him down and call up another. 3. What if we make a trade for a totrp? Great 5 days rest will be good for that guy as well. As others have stated in other tread our current pitching level is unsustainable. Why not try and extend that sustainability by lessening their innings for the rest of the year?

Otherwise, you are just taking starts away from the only two good pitchers we have in rotation, Folty and Newk, and giving more starts to the likes of Teheran, McCarthy, a rookie unknown like Allard, or the bevy of AAAA guys we like to give spot starts to - Wisler, Sims, or Fried

We just had Soroka go down and land on the 60 day DL. Sanchez is hurt again and his status is up in the air.
I'm not ready to give Wisler, Sims, Fried and others who are unproven a number of starts that would reduce the starts of Folty and Newcomb.
I only hope we can keep a viable 5 man rotation, and if any of those other are ready to pitch up here then I would rather see them helping in the pen. Our starters are lucky to go 6 innings and now we want to give them even less? Our pen needs help every single day and another starter in the rotation is 1 less arm in the pen.
Stick with 5 and anyone else that can help can help the bullpen.

I've never been a fan of the idea, but if we got stacked up with starting pitchers I could see it then. But even if we added a top guy, we're still short on legit starters right now to go this in my opinion.

I’m more of a fan of what the rays have been doing, but starting with a starter and bringing in another starter. Something like...
Game 1: Folty-Gohara
Game 2: Newcomb-Touki
Game 3: Soroka-Allard

My thought is that it'll save innings for a playoff run.

I suppose a lot depends on the actual names, or even perhaps how many veterans are involved....Folty and Newk are both increasing their innings pitched, and Julio (when he doesn't drop down so bad like he did the first couple innings last night, screws up his release point, and he pitches uphill rather than use the advantage of leverage the mound provides) is fairly consistent with 6 innings or better.....a younger staff very well could benefit from a 6 Man to get innings eaten up, especially if there is a suspect pen...........but a hidden problem would obviously be getting ENOUGH work for some of the kids, and the accompanying problem of continuing to develop.......but IMO certainly something to think about.
