Some Braves “happenings” from this date.....
1976 After an error sets up a six-run rally for the Padres in the eighth inning, the new Atlanta owner, Ted Turner, invites the 2,994 fans watching the Braves lose to San Diego, 10-7, to come back the next night as his guests.
2006 After the Royals get off to a terrible start, Allard Baird is replaced as the team's general manager by former Braves assistant Dayton Moore. During his seven-year tenure, the club compiled a 381-576 record, including one winning season and three 100-loss seasons.
And some firsts from around MLB.....
1869 The first rain out involving a professional baseball team occurs when heavy rain postpones the Red Stockings' tune up game against the Antioch Nine, a Yellow Springs, Ohio college team. Aaron B. Champion, Cincinnati's owner, had been a student at the school in the 1850s.
1965 For the first time in history, an all-switch-hitting infield starts a big league game. In the nightcap of a twin bill, the Dodgers, with Wes Parker at first base, Jim Lefebvre at second, Maury Wills at shortstop, and Jim Gilliam at third, lose to the visiting Reds, 6-1.

The Frenchman is back. The Braves optioned DP back to Gwinnett and brought Bourjos back.
And in totally related news, somewhere in cyberspace, a duck's head just exploded.

*** WEATHER UPDATE*** 5:50 PM EDT 31 May 2018 A complex of showers and a few strong thunderstorms in southern TN and northern GA continues to produce heavy rainfall and even a bit of small hail. The complex is drifting slowly to the SE but should mostly dissipate and pass to the north and east as the evening wears on but bears watching. A few light to moderate showers could clip the northern metro area if it holds together that long. Arrival time would be about game time at current rate of movement. A few stray showers could be generated in advance (to the south) of that complex between 6:30 and 7 PM if it remains viable so I'll take a look at the radar for any signs of that happening. Most models in agreement on low chances of showers tonight although a few isolated showers generally < .1", especially just to the east could pop up (An isolated moderate shower just developed to the south of the ballpark about 5:45 PM). A few more showers as we head into Friday night and Saturday. Friday looks to have a bit more instability than today thus he possibility of more showers and a weak front could also enhance precipitation later Saturday and Sunday but the we dry out for a few days. Some chances for showers return by Wednesday. -PA GO BRAVES!

*** WEATHER UPDATE*** 7:15 PM EDT 31 May 2018
As expected the complex to the north is currently sliding to the east of the metro area. Heavy rains from that system have caused flash flooding in some places, especially White County. Otherwise, should be a pleasant evening, maybe a little muggy, with just a chance of an isolated shower. Several small showers have developed and passed just to the south of the ballpark over the last 90 minutes so an isolated shower on the western edge of that complex is still possible over the next 30-60 minutes. Time for the Braves to bring out the bats again.
GO BRAVES!

Braves feed is blacked out here. Gotta' listen to FP and the Nats crew say how great every player on the NATS is once again.
