I am beginning to think that nightman is most likely stalking Bryce Harper. You just wait, by the end of the year Harper will be #1 in WAR and # 1 in our hearts. I was also a big proponent of the Braves signing Arrieta, while he wasn’t having a Cy Young level season and look how he completely overmatched the best offense in the NL. Even after last night Arrieta's xFIP is 4.02.
It was 4.11 last year.
Something that matters when you go to dole out $75M for three years for a guy who has been regressing already.
I suggest that you might get real serious about taking some money management classes before you try running your own business someday!

You’ll have to laugh to mask the tears.

Once again... he will generate revenue unlike any signing in recent memory. Kershaw and Machado could prove better over a long contract maybe but Harper is extremely marketable whether that’s do to love or most likely hate.

If he’s so wonderful and brings in so much revenue and is working out so great, why in. the world would the Nationals not pay whatever it takes to keep him?

They might do that, but with Robles (injured at present) and Soto, they've got a couple of really nice OF prospects waiting in the wings. They might decide to spend their gazillion dollars on other pieces. I say in all seriousness that there is no way I would pay him $40 million per. It just doesn't make sense, not in baseball. This game requires too many good players to invest that much in one guy, especially for the number of years he'll be seeking.

With what they will be paying Scherzer and Strasburg next year, they may not being able to afford him. Their payroll is already $180 million this year, Scherzer will get a $15 million bump in salary, and Strasburg will get a $20 million bump next year.

And both of them are better players than is Harper.

But I cannot think of anyone else off the top of my head I would give that long a deal to Betts is only 25, so if pushed and he were a FA, I might consider 10 if I am a big market team As for Harper, one suitor with the big bucks that I cannot see is the Yankees (they have Stanton who was their prize last off season & they have Judge ) no need to spend there. Some project 40 mil a yr but I cannot see it -- maybe in the 30ish mil range At the most would not offer more than 7 yrs (got to take into account the injury history). Can't see the Braves doing it -- Phoolies maybe

I just don't think a guy who is even just 25 is worth a 10 yr deal.
