Let’s stop crying about the umps. Braves had the lead VIZ blew it, Snit sat and allowed it, even after it was seen Viz had no slider. Folty should close, my opinion. Folty? Seriously? Uhh, that's gonna leave a pretty big hole in the rotation. FWIW, I'm not crying about the umps, but that doesn't change the fact that they cost us a game last night in spite of what happened in the 9th, nor does it change the fact that it is a useless waste of time. Ironic that baseball is wasting time on replay when the mantra is otherwise to speed the game up. Part of the bullpen problem is being in the game in inning 5/6 every game, folty is the KING of this issue. Folty rarely gets beat around in inning 1. Wisler/Gohara/sims can possibly be effective given a chance. My proposal isn’t far off base as many evaluators have stated Folty was destined to close anyway. If you’re worried about replacing a starter like Folty with the richest pitching Depth in recent history, then you’ve got a real problem on hand that runs deeper than a closer.

The umps made wrong calls and NY blew the replay.
The loss however is on Viz and his hanging pitches.

For as frustrating as he is to watch, Folty has only given up more than 2 ER once in 9 starts this year.
Him only lasting 5-6 innings is not an issue, it's the new face of baseball all over the place.
I don't like it, but we can't single out one guy because he can't go more than 5-6 innings.

Folty got two big time strike 3 calls that were balls in men in scoring position situations. Y’all ain’t gonna mention that though.? No much you can do about balls and strikes. I'm convinced the box isn't totally accurate either so just because it's just inside or outside the box doesn't mean it's the definitive call.

***Weather Update*** 3:30 PM 16 May 2018 After receiving as much as 1.5" to 2" today in the area (according to local observations I viewed) more scattered showers are lingering with some thunder possible this afternoon. Some stabilization should take over this evening with just some scattered showers in the area as the low pressure area and associated tropical moisture move to the east. PWAT's remain in the 1.5-1.75" range so there is abnormally abundant moisture aloft just no trigger/forcing mechanism (i.e. front, upper air disturbance, convergence, convection etc.) to release it en mass tonight. Models are pretty much in agreement with keeping rain to the south and east this evening although like yesterday I can't rule out small rainfall amounts (.1"-.2") over the course of the game if a stray shower or two were to sneak in but seems unlikely at this point. QPF's in some models for Thursday bring in another .5" to possibly 2" in a few areas including some thunder, heavier precipitation or multiple showers with the help of thermal lifting (convection) causing more instabilty but still nothing severe. Generally .25- .75" for the area. This could change somewhat overnight so I'll look at that tomorrow morning.
GO BRAVES... beat the Cubs!

Not much you can do about bad calls anywhere, it’s been part of the game as long as time so move along get over it is all you can do. I mean I guess you can blame the umps for Viz’s slider not sliding if it makes you feel complete, I’ll allow it.

The three top returning innings pitched guys from last year are Julio (188), Folty (156) and Newcomb (100)....for us to have any hope of playing meaningful games in September we have to have these guys increase their innings and have some others step up in order to save the pen....while I understand the frustration with Viz, I also don't want to rob Peter to pay Paul...I'm not sure that trying to convince Folty to do anything, let alone change roles, is an especially good idea right now given the ER facts you stated.....sooo, maybe find someone from what we have in the minors that MIGHT some day be a starter or even look around the league, but I would suggest letting those three starters mentioned initially stay where they are.

Oh, Folty has the stuff, but not the mentality. Winkler seems to possess both, plus you don't have to blow up the rotation if you go with him. I get what you're saying, but I don't know that it's the right move right now. It's definitely a possibility going forward, though.

I completely get your post, I’m not saying my idea is the end all be all. It was more of a hmmm, kinda thing

You can watch this unfold even on Twitter.

Folty didn't get those calls. Quite the contrary, he got stiffed on calls that should have been calls that should have been STRIKES
