If you can get Machado for Riley, Gohara, Wright, and Demeritte PLUS sign him to something like 8/$250, you'd have to do that. I doubt you can do that, though............not with his agent.

Ok yeah that’s one of the dumbest things I’ve read in awhile. He even says we “might” win the division this year with Machado..... but it would be worth giving up 4 top prospects instead of just signing him in the offseason??? Pfffffffffttttttt....this is something Frank Wren or Cheaters would do.

I wait it out and try to sign him in the off season. There is no guarantee he'll sign long term....then you give up four top prospects for a rental in a season that isn't destined to go very deep in the playoffs...if they make it at all

Why trade for him when we can sign him in the offseason? Good point, but I did say only if you could sign him to a contract. He could always be traded later for new prospects, assuming he isn't hit by a truck between now and then. He's only 25. This guy could put us over the top THIS year, IMO. Prospects aren't gone forever when you trade them for a guy like Machado.

I would suggest that signing Machado would not solve the issues with the rotation and bullpen that would be necessary to put "us over the top" Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk

Players can't even make a comment about how nice it would be to have Machado on their team next year--some player said something to another guy recently who was going to be a free agent, on the field during pre game warmups and it became a big mess because the league had to decide whether or not it was considered recruiting, which is illegal. It's gotten insane.
In fact, here's the article, and it had to do with Machado!

Question. So the Orioles can't sign him to an extension then trade him? It would never happen. Just curious.

Why trade for him when we can sign him in the offseason? Absolutely -- but why sign Machado when you have no idea what Riley who is going to be 21 can do -- he might be better and a lot cheaper than what you pay for Machado I can be assured that Alex is not that dumb -- Thank God that Bradley is not the GM And why do you want a Borass client when you have a legit guy so close who got promoted to AAA now -- we do not need to spend 250-300 mil for Machado There are other areas to spend on -- and do we really need to spend 200 plus this off season if things keep going this way? I think not -- they should spend to keep the nucleus in place when its time to spend on them not some FA who could get past his prime

Machado's value given where the Orioles are now is similar to what we got for Justin Upton which was not much It will be quantity, not quality -- a mid to small market team who gives up much more is a fool
