Don't get me wrong, I love Ozzie, and his low AVG is totally attributable to a .207 BABIP, which will stabilize on its own.
But so far, he's got no walks. Quite frankly, I often feel like he swings at every strike he sees, regardless of whether it's one he can do anything productive with ... which too often leads to an unproductive out within the first 3 pitches. That's not what you want from the top of your order. He's seeing 3.41 pitches per PA, and MLB average is 3.91. that might not sound like much of a difference, but you would think the top of the order should always be "above average" in this category.
In short, love Albies. Hope this doesn't turn into a trend, but I'd love to see him work the count a bit more, eliminating the weak outs from swinging at pitchers pitches with less than 2 strikes, and start drawing some walks.

Fredi G is now the forum default avatar. If you don’t pick one yourself... that’s what you get.
I think Ozzie has always been that way.. of course I wish he wasn’t, but hopefully that ability to take is something he can develop.

I dunno, he's consistently put up a 7-8% walk rake across his MiLB and MLB career, which would have equated to about 3 walks by now. There's a part of me that worries he's falling in love with the idea of being a power threat, and it's making him too swing-happy.

Maybe, but he is really young so I expect he will go through some of those things. I worry about it as well, but I want to give it some time before I become too concerned.

Is this The Wizard of Oz you cats are talking about? That dude can do no wrong in my book. Seriously, he's very young. I suspect he will work counts more as he matures.

I sure wish he'd walk instead of hitting these darned home runs and doubles and triples!!!
lol, I get the point and he can be a little frustrating with being such a free swinger.
On the other hand, he seems to be able to hit a lot of bad pitches pretty hard.
He'll have to get a handle on it though or he'll end up seeing nothing but junk pitches.

Not bashing him or the results Pap, just commenting on his approach. To me, his approach seems definitely geared towards driving the ball, which is fine, as long as he remembers that going 1-4 with an xbh isn't really the best approach in all situations, especially at the top of the order. That's all, just hoping to see him have some more patience down the road, especially batting lefty.

I understand Brad...was sort of just thinking out loud, in that the weather and travel may be adding some gitty up to his play right now....hopefully his approach goes more toward what you was talking about.

The Great and Powerful Oz could stand to be a bit more patient at the plate. He's just a kid. That will come.
