Mark Bowman @mlbbowman The Braves have signed Jose Bautista to a Minor League deal. Bautista will spend time at the Spring Training facility before joining an affiliate. He will attempt to prove he can play third base.
Kelsey Wingert @kelswingert In January last year, Toronto brought back Bautista on a one-year-deal worth $18 million with options. The contract included a $17 million option for 2018 and a $20 million vesting option for '19. #Braves just signed the six-time All star to a minor league deal.

Me no likey.
I already don't like the fact that Camargo is slow in being brought back to the big team. As much fun as Flaherty has been so far, he is a .200 to .220 hitter literally every year during his career. He will no doubt regress a LOT this season as we go. There's zero chance he'll be around to help us long term. Bautista will not help us long term. I want to see Camargo playing as much as possible because he might be a guy that can help us long term even if it's just as a utility player. But we need to see what we have in this guy. I know he's struggling so far in his rehab, so I kind of understand not bringing him back just yet, but signing Bautista is an ugly sign that he might end up with the playing time at 3B that Camargo should get. Bautista is not the player he once was or I'd feel differently about that. And the first time he does a bat flip I want him shot.

Thenonly thing the Braves must be thinking about is his POP at the plate

Camargo isn't our long term solution at 3rd so what happens to him is inconsequential.

But he has shown the potential to be a player who can help us 3 to 5 years from now. I want to see what he really has or doesn't have. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but we are not going to compete for a playoff spot this year. An awful lot has gone right with the bats and that's not going to continue, and the bullpen will be an ongoing problem. If Bautista ends up having a good season with the bat we're still not making the playoffs. And if he plays and takes significant playing time away from Camargo I don't think that's a good thing. Bautista will be 38 this year and has regressed quite a bit. If the odds were good that he was going to bounce back I'm pretty sure somebody else with a better team than us would have taken the chance by now, especially if it's a minor league deal to start out with.

Well, until the Bravos prove otherwise, I'm a believer. Call me a Monkee if you must.

Kevin McAlpin Kevin McAlpin @kevinmcalpin With the @firefrogsbb, Jose Bautista is 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
