No losage Small atta boy to Bryce Who knows, maybe Elder will have an all star first half like last year.... Maybe. One positive … he’s aware of his weaknesses and said he’s really worked on resolving some issues… such as not letting games get out of control when he hits a snag. Let’s hope he’s matured and can handle the mental part of pitching.

Husband wore something called sliding shorts to prevent strawberries. We didn't have that fancy shmantzy sort of thing. They certainly didn't look fancy to me....lol...just a piece of baseball paraphernalia.

I slid into home one game and tore a hole in my trousers on my hip and scraped the daylights out of my hip. The field actually had some gravel in the dirt. Yeah I had the same experience. So when I see these guys sliding when there's no throw and no defensive player near the bag, I'm thinking it's an entire different world from what I lived! We had sliding pads under our uniforms. Lots of gravel mixed in the dirt. Caused some horrific bounces. While playing 3rd base I had one come up and hit me in the middle of the forehead and knocked me over. A couple of minutes later I'm playing again. They didn't even check for concussions in those days.

No losage Small atta boy to Bryce Tell you how good the Phillies are going, his replacement hit a 3 run HR. Suarez now has 25 scoreless innings.

I think he was referring to Bryce Elder, but to your point, the Phillies got hot at the end of the season the last two years. This year I think the Phillies are going to be competing with the Braves for the best record in baseball all season. They're definitely going to be a problem.

We had a 50' by 50' yard that was half dirt and half weeds, and the only way we could cut it was with one of these, which we had only because my dad finally collected enough full green stamps books over the years.

I wish. I had one of those too. By the way, when not playing organized ball at home I spent a good amount of time on my cousins 100+ acre farm every year baling hay, picking corn that was missed, making and tending gardens, feeding cows, pigs, chickens and cleaning out stables and barnyard manure wearing hip boots (the manure on the concrete outside the stables was the real wet stuff). We'd played baseball in the cow pasture and used dried cow patties for bases. Oh for the good times!

Yeah and I was talking youth baseball when mom and pop had to supply everything but the uniform top, not HS or ball at University. I was lucky to just get a new pair of actual baseball pants each year, and was told I better not rip them or anything like that because that was all I was going to get. Then the fields we played on were seemingly made of the same material that you can rub off asphalt roof shingles.
Sliding shorts... pfft. We were the Bad News Bears... not the Yankees.

My husband didn't have sliding shorts in the late 50's and 60's when he was growing up. I'm sure his parents couldn't have afforded them either. He lived on a small 10 acre farm in rural Ohio. He didn't have sliding shorts when he was young, not until he was in his mid-20's and could afford a pair. They were these white cotton things, sort of like long boxers, and had large pads built into the sides.
