Yeah... this crap will go down as AA's worst move. I never really understood why he thought it was necessary. Contreras had already proved himself to be a great offensive player and catcher's defense against base stealers is a joke. I think he must have thought catcher defense was going to be a premium after the rule changes, and that just hasn't proved out at all. Absolutely his biggest flop.

I've felt all along that Bauer's number one preference was to pitch in the major leagues here in the states again. I've also felt if he ends up being denied that opportunity he would end up suing baseball for a lot of money. Especially if he proves his innocence of any legal wrongdoing, which he has clearly done. And then extra especially if he can prove any collusion to blackball him, even if it's just one email or any single shred of actual evidence. And either he himself has become proficient at detective work or has the right sources to find things. Based on the ending of this video, to me he clearly has started things in motion and put the ball in MLB's court. He asks how long now before he can "go back to work and earn my living." Laying the ground work for taking legal action against baseball if they won't let him back in. It's pretty clear, with every team in baseball needing starting pitching, there are many teams that would take their chances with him right now if there wasn't word from the league they are not to do it.

Awesome because so far the only thing the guy is guilty of is being a bit of an oddball and sometimes allegedly being a bit of a jerk.... which is true of at least a 1/3rd of all professional athletes.

Yes, and who has even been blackballed just for that? It was clearly personal, Manfred and Bauer had butted heads several times well before any of this happened, and Manfred has it for him. Nobody should have that kind of power and get away with it. If he did issue a mandate, he could have to go back on it now because he's playing with fire if it can be proven.

I'm pretty basic in evaluating players. I'm certainly no pro at it by any stretch, but Contreras is considerably more athletic simply in the way he moves than Murphy is. I suspect Contreras will be an all-star long after Murphy is forgotten. I hope I'm wrong.

Pat of my fear at this point is that Sargent Numbnuts is going to platoon Murphy and d'Arnaud again for the rest of this season like he did the last half of last year. For some reason he sees the two as equal players. Murphy quite possibly slumped because he got screwed out of 200 AB's last year, and he and d'Arnaud are in two completely different hemispheres as players. We got super lucky that we got some great offense from d'Arnaud for a couple seasons, but I'm pretty sure that's tapped out and he is a .600 to .650 OPS hitter from here on out. Since the start of August 2023 d'Arnaud has actually been a .550 OPS hitter. But every other day starter.

I'm also afraid that Kelenic will drop like a rock. He's a gritty guy with some talent, but I don't have a lot of faith in him. Last 4 games he's 2-13 with 6 Ks. It's still very early, though.

Something we just paid $18M for in Kelenic.
