We'll be playing at 4PM EST on Saturday. I know this because I have a mandatory family shindig I have to attend that starts at 4 and will last 2-3 hours.

This weekend Fri-Mon is my 25th wedding anniversary. We'll be at a B&B in West Va. Not sure how much of any games I'll see but I'll check in here from time to time to check things out. I expect plenty of bullpen comments.

OPS in mid .500's That's just wrong, those two guys are not totally interchangeable players, which is part of the problem in my opinion. Murphy should have 2 ABs for every 1 that d'Arnaud has. Those ABs you cited should be 210 for Murphy and 104 for d'Arnaud with a sensible manager.
Look at their first half numbers:
Murphy: .306/.400/.599/.999
d'Arnaud: .275/.349/.496/.845
And throw in that Murphy is a superior defensive catcher.
d'Arnaud has a 0.9 WAR this year and Murphy is at 4.2.
Just not a daily rotational platoon situation at all.

And we can't talk about catchers without mentioning William Contreras' season.

125 wRC+
5.4 WAR
#1 catcher in all of baseball.
Ouch. I really hated giving him up, I felt 100% sure he was a legit top notch hitter. I had no idea he could be so good behind the plate so quickly.

Do you think getting traded lit the fire to prove the Braves wrong… all bat, no glove? I do. To me, he was the happy warrior (similar to Arcia’s situation) in that he was so psyched to be playing for this team, the Braves, that it either crushed him or made him angry and he used that emotion to work hard and prove everybody wrong.

I really don't know what to make of it, I can see him being very motivated but it's possible too he just got someone to work with his defense that knew what they were doing. I'd like to know the story, surely somebody worked with him to some degree. I don;t think a guy can be so bad at catching that the team is looking for another position for him, then he goes to another team and he's suddenly the #1 rated catcher in baseball defensively. That's just crazy.

David O'Brien @dobrienatl · 9h #Braves great Andruw Jones will throw the ceremonial first pitch before Saturday's NLDS opener in Atlanta, and singer-songwriter extraordinaire (and noted Braves fan) Jason Isbell will do the honors before Game 2 on Monday.

" Max Fried made it through five innings and 76 pitches in an intrasquad game Tuesday, his first game in nearly two weeks. It was presumably all positive for Fried and the Atlanta Braves, even if he gave up a couple of home runs and pitched with a Band-Aid on his left index finger, the one that’s had a recurring blister in recent weeks.
Actually, that Fried pitched with a bandage, something he won’t be permitted to do in a game that counts, might’ve had something to do with him not being as sharp as usual. Pitchers say it’s hard to have feel for pitches with tape or a Band-Aid on a finger, particularly a digit as important to throwing a breaking ball as Fried’s index finger is for his vaunted curveball and slider.
Unofficially, Fried was charged with six hits and three runs (two earned) including back-to-back homers by Kevin Pillar and Sean Murphy to start the fourth inning. He had one strikeout and three walks, including two walks among the last three batters he faced in the fifth inning. Oh, and his team lost, 4-1, for those wondering."

Did you see him gun down Corbin Carroll yesterday? A rocket of a throw right on the bag. I said the Brewers got a steal in that trade but without Esteury Ruiz from the Brewers to the A's the trade wouldn't have happened and they got a boatload for him in return, enhanced by the Braves determination to get Murphy by giving up Contreras too. In fact, I felt that the trade was so one sided I thought maybe Adames was coming to Atlanta also and it just hadn't been announced yet. Many thought we were searching for possible a Dansby replacement or insurance at that time. The Brewers also got a good setup guy in Payamps. The Braves valued a proven catcher with a track record in Murphy while Contreras still had questions about about his defense. I'm not unhappy with Murphy but the Brewers got way more and gave up way less than anyone in that trade.

I'm not unhappy with Murphy but the Brewers got way more and gave up way less than anyone in that trade. Yep, I completely agree. It’s one of those things—we haven’t had a proven solid two way catcher since Javy in my opinion, McCann just wasn’t very good defensively. Having gone so long with patchwork catchers year after year I was really happy to get Murphy. I expect he’ll be worth it in the long run. But I did feel gut punched giving up Contreras, I felt it was clear he was always going to hit. The defense was questionable at the time so AA did what he thought he had to do. I thought Adames was a real good option, he just had a .717 OPS 94 wRC+ season, very surprising. Good numbers with the glove still. It will be interesting to see if we stick with Arcia. He did end up with a .741 OPS and 99 wRC+. He showed a pretty bad lack of range in my opinion and got a little sloppy in the field, likely from playing so much and getting worn down. He ended up with a 2.3 WAR, pretty mediocre in the end. Which is fine, I can live with that given the situation, it will just be interesting to see what we do. I figure they’ll go with him and sign him cheap for 2-3 years.
