I've been trying to do the math. By all accounts, Michael Soroka is supposed to be a free agent in the 2024/2025 offseason. However, because he's not down in AAA on an injury rehab -- instead, he's down via his last option-year, he's not accruing MLB service time. He currently sits at 4 years and 122 days. I believe 172 days equates to a full MLB service year, so Soroka is highly likely to finish 2023 with less than 4.172, or 5 years, of service time.
Doesn't that mean, if he's on our roster all season in 2024, that he'd technically be just-shy of 6 years service time? Meaning he wouldn't be a free agent, and the Braves would still retain him for 2025?
If so, bravo Mr. Anthopolous. Another game of chess -- and with all the money the Braves have spent on Soroka to continue rehabbing while pulling in $2M+ per year to do so, I think it's justified to squeeze out an extra year in your ROI.

I'm not sure how all of that works, and leave it up to others to just tell me things like "we get another year of control on Soroka because of......" I hope you are correct... it would be tough to hang with him all that time only to see him hit FA about the time he's finally rounding back into his previous form.
