Braves win!! Tonkin goes 3.1 and gives the pen a much needed respite If I was building a bullpen in 2023 when starters across the league only go 5-6 innings, I would have 4-5 guys out there that could go 2-3 innings. I might have just a couple or three guys who were 1 inning dudes.

Nice job by Tonkin tonight. Aren't you friends with winthorp? (Dice?) Am I remembering that correctly?

I think he's becoming a better starting pitcher. Watching Chavez, Strider probably already understands location is paramount to longevity? I dunno I just made that up. However, amongst the pitchers association and people who pitch...velocity is just how you get to the show...how do you stay? Apparently Chavez's control only seems to work on this team...not his previous twelve...

Hopefully it's that he wants to go 7+ instead of 5+ and dialing it back to 97 is how he is trying to achieve it, and his movement at 97 plays well when he can locate it up. Debatable...Personally, I'd prefer a phenom for 5 innings at 98/99 than above average for 7 innings. Is he getting his k's...yes. Are they tee-ing of on his 96mph fastball? Yes. He is superbly special at 99mph. He is mortal at 96. Not doing his team favors by going two extra innings while getting lit up. Hopefully, that is in his control. Not sure though.

Renny and I are friends with dice. He knows we’d like to see him here, but I guess he’s just not interested anymore or has better things to do. It happens.

He's only been lit up recently. Earlier in the year when he was locating properly, he was doing great as at 97 as he was last year at 99. If that gives me 1-2 less innings I have to use my pen every time he pitches, I'll take it.

You are conflating two different issues. 1. The trend of him having lost control of his fastball. 2. The necessity of his FB to be at 99 instead of 97, which I noted was not really a big deal when he has his control.
