Who's a good comp for Dansby? Correa, Turner, and Lindor are all better. Story is a considerably better hitter, but not as good with the glove. He got 6/$140, which is looking like an overpay at this point. Semien got 7/$175. The problem with Dansby is he's so inconsistent. He'll be 29, so his defensive value has peaked, as has his speed. Having a manager who understands the value of days off would probably help him, but we all know that ain't gonna happen. The fact that he's from Georgia is meaningless to me. I guess it all depends on what he'll sign for, but all signs point to him leaving. IMO

Dansby was probably the best player in baseball for two months this summer. But the proven slumps you can count on for half the season keep him from being in that top tier of SS. Some team will offer him crazy money. I’ve been suspicious the last two years that he told the Braves he was going to test FA and everybody agreed to stay quiet about it. It became a PR nightmare when it was public that Heyward was going to do it. And since no one ever mentioned Dansbys contract until the last month, I think that’s why.

AA apparently is saying Dansby & Kenley are key pieces for the Braves

He seems like a 6/$125 guy at the most to me, but he'll probably top that. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

IF Vaughn's in their long term plan as SS, I don’t think it’s next year. I think they find a not too expensive veteran present to bridge the gap until they think he’s ready, especially defensively. If he’s playing left field in the OS, that tells me he’s a keeper, just not at SS. If that’s the case, I say the Braves go after a SS (I’m not knowledgeable enough to know who that might be) but may still decide to bring back Dansby after his best offer (at a hometown discount, of course). He’s getting married in the OS and I heard they were building a new home…gotta mean there’s a small part that realizes there’s more to life than showing off the big contract. Get rid of Ozuna for sure. Keelp Dansby. Get rid of Snicker and Rosario. Worthless. Snicker is too brain dead to lead this team.

Even though he got it together the last few weeks Jansen just showed for three years he’s not the pitcher he once was and can’t stay consistent. There’s no reason in the world to bring him back. You’re just begging for trouble.
Dansby is not a $20M per year player in my book but I expect somebody to offer even more. I don’t have a number in mind. I would have to see what the 7th to 10th best SS’s are making.

I mean, $20 for Morton next year, without even seeing what his market is? I guarantee we could have gotten him for considerably less. Sounds like he's gonna do the same thing with Jansen.

The Morton thing is quite a mystery. I would have been ok bringing him back but not anywhere near that price. Going into Saturdays game he had a 6.23 ERA in he previous 6 starts and he didn’t do that number any good on Saturday. Not exactly what you want down the stretch from the veteran guy you’re paying a lot of money. Given his age I’m a bit concerned that Charlie may be done.

I bet we could have brought him back for $7/$8 million, and certainly no more than $10. Just wasting AT LEAST $10 million on him. It's weird. It really is.

Part of me thinks we were expecting another deep run in the playoffs and those are lucrative. I’m sure management expected us to get to the next series at least. I don’t understand that rush to sign Charlie.

My thought was maybe they were counting on having extra wastable money to throw around and for some reason they like Morton a lot more than they should. Snitker must have told AA that Morton is one of them baseball pitcher guys.

AA said one of the most important things with this team and our philosophy is to sign guys that fit in well with our locker-room. Charlie must fit in really, really well. Maybe they think he's going to be instrumental in teaching Strider that 3rd pitch he's been developing?... I don't know.
