...and here we go with the lovely rule changes that are so in vogue now to "improve the game" that has been pretty awesome for well over 130 years. First player to steal 1stIn addition to stealing first we also have robo-ump, we also had moving the mound back to increase offense, and allowing one foul bunt attempt with 2 strikes without being called out. yay

The kids will love it, good clean wholesome fun for the whole family!

Braves would totally be screwed if that rule was in effect.
So much for saving catchers knees if this is implemented. Molina would always catch different if a runner wasn't on base or if he didn't have to worry about the strike three getting away.

This is what happens when you just start allowing rule changes to a game that pretty much existed that long just as it has always been.
My issue is not that I just refuse to accept changes... it's more that I have to accept the premise that there is a problem that needs to be addressed.
Moving the mound back to increase offense?? I don't see any real problem with the amount of offense. Speed up the game? Never saw the need myself and I don't care about a bunch of people with the attention span of a gnat.
Strike zone and robo-ump? Okay... I think the inconsistency from ump to ump was completely tolerable, and that never bothered me. I have however see a dramatic increase in singular ump inconsistency and that is a big problem. If a change can work to solve that, then I will support it.
Stealing first?... fouls on strike 2 bunt attempts not a SO? What "issue" is that solving?

The root of the problem is the super short attention span of the younger generation, right? They aren't taking to baseball because in their bizarro world it's too slow, not enough action. Doesn't that mean the game is doomed one way or the other? If so, don't chase away the fans you DO have now. See NASCAR's mistake.

Somewhat the problem. Look at the soccer team in Atlanta and how much the youth support it. They say it’s soooooooo interesting but at the end of the day the scores are lower than any sport. With the over abundance of travel ball I think we will see steady attendance from the younger generation. Kids named Jaxxon and Tristan will always follow the game.

It's not scoring... it's action and soccer has tons of it.
It has much more action than baseball and baseball scores would be pretty low if there was a goalie blocking home plate!
I think baseball's so called issues are a manufactured problem. I see full stadiums all the time except when teams are bad. If you remember the Braves from the 70's it's proof low attendance then was a bigger problem in that circumstance than it is now.
The only real issue is TV viewership. That is down for all sports because there are just too many other options for people to engage in these days. All of these changes aren't going to change that.

Yeah, I don't know about all the action in soccer, but I don't know anything about the game. You're spot on about winning, though. I suspect that has more to do with the Atlanta team's success with the fans than anything else. I did watch some Stanley Cup action this year. Hockey is action packed and pretty cool to watch.

The next rule change is on all fly balls to the OF that are caught, a runner on first base can run directly to 3rd base (right across the mound) without going to second base. To make it more exciting, the pitcher can play defense and tackle him. Also any runner on second base can run directly to home plate without going to third base. Again the pitcher can tackle him if he wants.
Also to appease the millennials, any time a team hits a grand slam they have to give the other team two of the runs.

Don't want.
Do want:
"Undoubtedly, some of the talent evaluators were more focused on Tigers closer Shane Greene, who pitched the ninth inning despite his team trailing by 11 runs. "

Congrats on the 777 post of this tread! I gotta start looking closer at all these guys, I suppose. Shane Greene's stats sustainable. He's had some pretty bad ERA's. I know that's hard to get a great estimate on a relief pitcher. A lot Braves fans would be thrilled to get Stroman.

Is it just me or does TheHomersCometh avatar in his posts mess up all of the letters below it?
