Its entertaining to watch Dave O'Brien's snarky comments constantly trying to peg down people for noting what the overwhelming majority of us see in Will Smith.

You simply cannot keep sending Will Smith out there to close games. You. Simply. Cannot

Nola pitching a 5 inning no hitter against the dying Padres. that's a bummer, but at the same time San Diego sure did get cocky quick over the last couple seasons

Nola pitching a 5 inning no hitter against the dying Padres. Machado isn't a leader. Sometimes the numbers just don't tell the whole story. He's not a winning player. IMO. (they will probably right the ship and he'll lead them to the World Series now that I posted that).

Smith came right back at him after giving up that home-run, and that resillliensy risellency come back guy ability was exactly what you expect in your closer guy. Really impressive stuff there.

Last 16 innings pitched:
Matzek 0 earned runs, 5 hits, 4 walks, 19 K's Smith 8 earned runs, 14 hits, 7 walks, 17 K's, 4 home runs
Oh I see it now, O'Brien is right, Smith is clearly the better choice.

Aaron Nola lost his perfect game bid on a fielding error by their first baseman in the bottom of the 7th

You know, Vogt helped big time in winning this game. His hit and subsequent run scored in the 9th was the difference. Glad to see him do something. Seems like a good dude. He's also had a couple of good major league seasons in the past, so I can live with him as the backup catcher this year. Experience does matter, especially at playoff time.

That San Diego team is getting into must win territory, struggling as of late to stay ahead of the WC with the Reds.
Pressure is on them they really have gone for it they really have to at least get to the post season

You simply cannot keep sending Will Smith out there to close games. You. Simply. Cannot Well, Snitker will. Now of course you, I and the rest of this board would not but then again, you are supposed to trust these experts who make the decisions and cover the team right? (sarcasim of course)
