I think there is a legit reason you don’t see any pitchers who go play in the field on their non pitching days because they are so great with a bat.
At this level if competition, the ability to do either is a special thing and it just so rarely is something where both talents end up in one guy.
It was just too good to be true, but best of luck in his development... I just don’t see it ever coming about and they should be happy if he’s just a capable pitcher.
Didn’t we have a few folk that wanted to go in on him?

The only pitcher I can remember being successful as a two way threat was Brooks kieschnik for the brewers about 15 years ago. And he was a position player who converted to pitching after reaching the majors. He was used a lot as a pinch hitter before pitching out of the bullpen. Sometimes the brewers used him in left field also.

I agree. One of the telltale signs to me has always been guys like Tim Hudson--he was a great hitter his whole life, and when he got to the big leagues he pretty much looked way over matched most of the time. He was still a good hitting pitcher in the big leagues, but he still looked bad most of the time. I'm sure if he had the time to dedicate to hitting like positional players do he would have looked completely different. But it's pretty amazing how hard it is to hit big league pitching if you're not geared towards being prepared for it the way regular hitters are.
I find it hilarious though that Ohtani's swing is looking so bad already after all the hype. The next Babe Ruth or whatever. Turns out now he may be closer to a Tebow caliber hitter, lol.....

All the hype, and that posting fee. Well, all things considered, the Angels got off rather cheap.

All the hype, and that posting fee. Not that they don't have the money to waste, but it is hilarious how much money the Angels have wasted since they won their World Series.

Looking like he didn't realize what he was getting into. Shouldn't have made it a point to play both sides.

Looking like he didn't realize what he was getting into. Shouldn't have made it a point to play both sides. It's kind of looking like he may not be major league caliber from either side, which is shocking after all the hype. But who knows, maybe he'll adjust and be ok one way or another. It's spooky because the reports are saying he is completely overmatched whether he's hitting or pitching, so we'll see. Apparently he's going to start the season with the big club, it will be interesting for sure.

I wonder if it’s really best for him to start the club, or if they are doing it because of the fans and the amount of hype there was on the guy.

It doesn't look like he is ready for the majors.
