One thing for sure is that it's more fun having heathy debates after wins than it is after losses! Yeah but it also is a shame we're CHAMPIOING saving Matzek for when we really need him--it's not like he's Josh Hader lol.....it just shows how pathetic our pen is.
HEY, DON'T BURN THAT GUY THAT HAD A 4.66 ERA IN JUNE, HE'S OUR BEST LEFTY OUT OF THE PEN DAMMIT!!!

Don't look now, but Freddie's OPS is .901.

Freh-deh June .306/.377/.491/.868 Freh-deh July .435/.509/.761/1.270
And don't look now but we've won 4 of our last 6 games and we're 3.0 games behind the first place Mutts.
But anybody who doesn't think it's going to fall apart would have to be a fool. Unless we add a big bat and two good bullpen pitchers and have a whole bunch of other things go our way, and I'm not going to be holding my breath. I tend to sway to the positive side but I just don't see it happening. Best case our division rivals fall apart, we squeak in and get plastered in the first round. Been there done that enough times to not get excited about that.
I'd rather finish 3rd and not give up any piece of the future. If we can acquire some helpful players by trading fringe players, more power to AA.

Another big night for Gwinnett, they win 11-3 in Charlotte and will go for a 6 game sweep in Charlotte tomorrow.
Alex Jackson had a pair of two RBI doubles, 3-5 for the night with the 4 RBI, now at .261/.327/.670/.997
He's showing confidence and looking like a real major league hitter right now. He really should be up with the big club any day, looks like he's recovered from his injury.
Camargo 1-2 with a double and three BB, BA is .307 and OPS is .916 despite getting screwed out of playing 4 games this week with Gwinnett simply because we didn't option him back over the break.
Demeritte hits a grand slam tonight, his 4th game in a row with a dinger, he's at .308/.427/.703/1.130 for the season.
And last but not least, William Contreras with a double and another Contrebomb, he's at .414 for the season with Gwinnett and an OPS 1.312.
THAT DUDE CAN HIT!!!
What happened to Lucroy...I thought he looked at least serviceable in the game he caught before the break. Having The Famous as the everyday catcher is really hard to take. Not every manager is going to walk him to get to the pitcher.

Not every manager is going to walk him to get to the pitcher. I’m not a Lucroy fan but I thought he was a better option than Smith. Like littlebeast said I think Vogt is probably the starter now. I’d actually like to see Jackson get a shot now too instead of Smith but that’s probably not going to happen.

I think that's a lot of effort back and forth to end up with about the same thing we started with.
I would venture a guess that Vogt will be little better than Lucroy.
Agree on Jackson. If he was thought ready to be your opening day backup catcher, then why not now that he's over his injury and mashing at Gwinnett?

Lucroy brought the veteran presents, but I guess you meant Jackson.
Personally I would rather carry 3 catchers if one of them was replacing Sad Panda.

If he was thought ready to be your opening day backup catcher, then why not now that he's over his injury and mashing at Gwinnett? I don’t know if he’s ready to be an every MLB catcher yet because in reality he has put up some putrid numbers at the big league level and looked way overmatched. But as much improvement as he has made this year I’d like to see him get some kind of chance at the big league level so we can find out where he’s at. I agree I dont see Vogt as much better than Lucroy, and Smith is a dud, so I’d love to see Jackson get some swings soon. He’s not just putting up big numbers he looks comfortable and solid now. Edit: I misread your post, I missed where you said “backup” catcher. I’d love to see him get some MLB time this year because right now he’s looking better than a backup, especially compared to the pile of rubble we’re trying to use behind the plate. Jackson has wicked big time power for a compact solid swing.

Based upon what the Braves have been able to come up with, there's no catching to be had. If Contreras, Langaliers, and Jackson continue to develop, we will have 2 good catchers and one great trade chip in the near future, OR switch Contreras to the outfield. No reason I've seen that he shouldn't be able to play a corner spot.

The last two times Jackson was up with the big club I was left wondered why they were bothering with him anymore he looked so bad. Totally different story now, so is like to see what he can do. But now that Captain Beef Slapper has his veteran presents behind the plate we likely won’t see Jackson. I like the idea of carrying three catchers but we probably won’t since we have to have 18 bullpen armz. If we fall out of the race in the next 2-4 weeks Jackson is exactly the kind of player we need to be playing every day.
