I like the deal more if we can retain him for 2022 and have him be a complementary piece of a 4 man outfield group.
If we only have him as a 2.5 month rental, then I'm not so sure because I don't see us going anywhere this season.
Certainly the willingness to part with Ball indicates Freddie is going to be re-signed to a pretty long extension.

I’ve never been a Joc fan. That .593 career OPS against lefties is ugly. I could live with him as a 4th OFer in 2022 if we had just signed him cheaply in the offseason, but I don’t like giving up Ball for him. Even though Ball was our twelfth ranked prospect right now he has a high ceiling. By the time he’s ready we’ll have the DH in the NL. I hope this doesn’t bite us down the road. Fangraphs rates Ball a 70 on the power scale. Yikes.

They only had to give up Bryce Ball to do it. I get that he is a prospect with some fairly significant upside, and Pederson is Dansby 2.0 thus far in terms of his K rate. However, his pop does give the outfield a much needed power boost. I can take the high Ks if the power is there to offset them.
This move alone does not at all guarantee the Braves are right back in it, but it does show at least they arent ready to punt the season just yet. Bullpen could definitely use a couple upgrades before the deadline for sure.
This also tells me the Braves are almost unequivocally certain they will get Freddie resigned since Ball is a 1B and there aren't any others in the system close to MLB ready--not that I'm aware of at least.
If Joc Dansbys it up this year they still will have lost nothing. Turning loose of ball in no means is a crippling blow to the system.
100% fine with this move. If things still continue ue as they are and they finish up .500 or 5 or 6 under, then it's not going to exactly be a surprise given whata happened. But if things indeed do turn around and the Braves were to snatch the division from the Mets, it will be a surprise to be sure, but a welcomed one.
Usually I wouldnt be happy just settling for the division, but given the crapstorm that has befallen the team this year, somehow winning this division, as lousy as it appears to be, would be a success.
I'm still of the opinion that 2022 is the real target as far as a serious run. But any pleasant surprises here would be most welcome.

Just because Ball means nothing to the 2021 Braves doesn't mean we've lost nothing.

I think they should be able to exercise the team option - a good part of it can be paid by saying good bye to Ender that should cover a good share of it As for the Freddie thing, please do it 6 yrs, I think Pache should be part of the 4 man OF group next yr and be much better. Would love Marte, Pederson, Pache and Acuna and keep Heredia around

We have three completely dead spots on our roster right now--Almonte, Ender and Pablo. And Arcia is coming back to his norms. Why is Arcia playing instead of Adrianza? Adrianza has better numbers for the whole season than Arcia, who came in and got a few hits and now has fallen off again. Adrianza still has a .750 OPS for the season but hardly ever gets an AB.
It really is a constant misuse of players.....and soon we'll be running into our starters getting tired because they have all played every single game. I guess it's only about four guys now, our infield, since we've had the OF issues we've had.

Is it unreasonable to bring back Pache for another chance and bring up Waters for a look see at some point this season? I really do not want to give up on Pache cause I think he could be a Kiermayer type in the field with a better bat when he figures it out. I am buying that missing a whole yr in their development did hurt - they might likely have been further along now But they both have had their good moments in AAA. They are the future. Those are the kind of prospects we will not trade away for a short term fix I disagree about Arcia he has struggled in MLB but there is some talent there.

Considering that I expect us to be about 8-10 games out on trade deadline day, we might see some youngsters after that. But.......Pache has been shaky this year with Gwinnett, Waters has been wildly inconsistent. They're both striking out at 32-33% rates, we can't have that. Demeritte should get a chance, he's been really good. Arcia has 1900 PA's in the big leagues with a 71 career wRC+. That's not a major league level player, with a pretty decent sample size.
I'm going to be really pissed off if Camargo isn't traded by the deadline. He had two more hits today, he's hitting .310 and his OPS is about .910 but we have no plans and never will have any plans for him. Why we don't move him and get whatever we can in return is beyond me. He still has a career wRC+ of 93 in the big leagues and is an elite defender. Even though he's hit 7 HRs at Gwinnett, he's hitting .310 because he's gone back to hitting line drives and spraying the ball all over the field like he did in 2018. The last two years in the big leagues he was trying to do too much, trying to hit every pitch 800 feet. Nobody can convince me with this nice AAA season he's having and what he's proven he can did in the big leagues that there arent' several teams that would have him starting every day in the big leagues. So move the kid for his sake and take what you can get in return.

Well, make that three hits for Camargo today, he just hit a 2 run HR off the scoreboard with two outs to give Gwinnett a 12-11 lead in the top of the 9th. The Stripers were losing 11-3 and scored 4 runs in the 7th, went to the 9th and scored 5 more to take the lead.

It would be understandable, actually.

It would be understandable, actually. I agree but he probably would like to play with the guys on the team because he came through the organization with them. I'm sure after the 2018 season he felt like he would be part of the core for the future. I still don't blame the Braves for signing Donaldson. I think it obviously bothered Camargo and he never performed for us after that. I'm sure there people that would say that's his fault, and while I can't argue with that, I'd say well let's look at how fragile all young ballplayers are mentally when they're trying to make it in the big leagues. We've bent over backwards to help show our young players we believe in them, and that was done for a reason. Confidence is so important. I think what did add to the pouring of the salt in the wound was when Snitker said Camargo would still get several starts a week all over the field, and then that never happened. He hardly got any ABs in April and May and that was the end of that. So s**t happened, and to me it's just time for everybody to move on. It does baffle me why we haven't moved him because to this day we still have no plans for him.
After he hit the HR, Jackson doubled and then the hitting machine Contreras lined one of the wall to give Gwinnett a 13-11 lead. Charlotte came up and hit a leadoff HR, then the next three guys struck out. Fittingly, the last out was made by none other than Nick Williams, the one time Faillies "phenom."
