Braves select RHP/SS Spencer Schwellenbach with their second pick of the 2021 MLB Draft I always think its a crapshoot, but I like that pick

But again, look back at previous drafts and tell me how many first round picks you even recognize. Whatever the problem(s) are, draft evaluation, player development, very few of these kids ever even make it in the big leagues for all teams. And it is common to see guys taken way later in the drafts who do make it. Been a minute but I figured I would pop in… I have to disagree. A large number of the major leaguers come from the first round. Grouping a bunch of the late rounds together isn’t a fair comparison because it’s such a large pool of players and picks. In reality it’s a needle in a haystack unless targeting a high schooler who needs a large signing bonus to forgo school. Shoot many slip due to the asking price on a bonus even if they went to college. I do understand what you are saying and to your point I think it’s so much harder in baseball that tiers of prospects are much larger than other sports. Which making a draft pool stretching strategy viable. I wasn't saying more players who make it come from later rounds versus the first round, I was just saying some do and some are really good MLB players, which just adds to how much of a crapshoot it really is.

i do not get deep into the mlb draft as i do with other sports but what are reasons why teams can not trade picks either before or during the draft or at the trade deadline seems it would be a bit more exciting I think it's because they fear that the bad teams with higher picks would trade them off to good teams and the good teams would get better. It seems like one way or the other the good teams just keep getting better anyway, so I don't know what could be done....other than a salary cap to limit what the good teams can spend. They have the luxury tax in place but I wonder how much that really bothers a team that has bottomless pockets anyway.

That tells me we're going to extend Dansby 3 years and expect to move on from him after that.

I don't think many baseball teams draft for MLB level need.
It's not like the NFL or NBA where players step in and contribute immediately. It may take 3-5 or more years for kids to develop and by then who knows what your situation at a particular position may be. The only time they do that is if they are really lacking organizational depth at a particular position.
I would always think two things for the first 4-5 rounds, pitching or BPA regardless of position. Later I would look for positions just to make sure the pipeline had developmental pieces at all positions.

Mike Trout was the 25th player taken in the first round. Freddie was a second rounder, 78th overall. Dansby was number one overall. What more need one know about the MLB Draft?

We also have Shewmake in the system who knows how ready he will be in two yrs or even 3 I am all right with extending Dansby for 3 yrs and moving on. He is adequate defensively and does provide some pop and occasional hot streaks but he is what he is We know we will not sign a star in FA so that is all right and we will see how the guys in the system pan out

You never know with the baseball draft but this Cusick guy seems to have closer written for his future
If that is the case, not bad. As for control well, we will see. The videos seems he has that mindset and he can bring it
Maybe not the clean inning closer due to walks, but just my hunch that is what he will be.

Schwellenbach looks like good value for the second round, was he not projected to be a first rounder in some mocks
Not bad. Cusick might have control stuff but got to like the exciting heat he brings and you need relievers in todays game being a reliever is not a second rate thing this day in time.
