From one "expert" mock draft:
24. Atlanta Braves
Spencer Schwellenbach, SS/RHP, Nebraska
The Braves seem to have had Schwellebach circled for a few weeks now. They may be trying to push the Cornhusker Swiss Army Knife to their pick in the second round, but we don’t think he lasts that long. The Braves get their guy here. Atlanta has also been looking long and hard at Will Taylor and Lonnie White.

You should start a draft tread! Drafts just don't excite me that much. That was Nightman's niche, he loved that aspect of rosterbation.
I haven't looked at any draft info until just now. I browsed about 5 different "expert" mock drafts, and three of them had us drafting a SS with our first round pick, and they were all a different guy!
I do think the next 2-3 drafts are going to be crucial to how good we remain down the road. We should be good for another 3-5 years but we better draft well in the meantime.

We need to draft some real legit talent even in the later rounds and baseball history shows that you can get some real talent well beyond the first couple of rounds. The prospect depth lost in Coppygate, I think a couple of those guys are top rated prospects in other systems, like Puisson in Oakland is one I know of. Some of them are out of baseball now. Still it was organization depth I do think we can partake in the International signing now full speed. So Alex and company need to take advantage of that too I am not so sure how good we will be 3 to 5 yrs down the road if we cannot keep our guys healthy. And Soroka, that is something that should be worried about something went wrong. Should the medical staff and surgeons involved with this organization be reviewed and replaced? That is a fair question. Sure hope all will be well with Anderson cannot afford to lose another blue chip potential SP to major injury

I think drafts are WAY more of a crapshoot than even "experts" want to admit. It's funny to go back now and look at past drafts.
Look at just these two that I checked randomly, and tell me how many of the names you even recognize. People want to act like we screw up our picks all the time, the reality is that everybody does.

We picked Waters 41st overall in the second round, and people want to act like it's a disaster he's taking so long to blossom. Look at all those names before him that you don't even recognize, lol........

Add the struggles of Pache and that he and Pache are prospects coming up at the same time there is trepidation in some of the fan base myself included Not fair, but panic is how it goes when things are not going well He may very well develop but as for being rushed, its the right thing not to rush him I do not know if the braintrust is doing a good job developing guys to be their best. This is on the powers that be not the kids

Whatever the problem(s) are, draft evaluation, player development, very few of these kids ever even make it in the big leagues for all teams. And it is common to see guys taken way later in the drafts who do make it.

Our turn for our first round pick--they're saying there's a lot of good pitching prospects available, here we go!

Yea, the draft in baseball does not give you the immediate bang like football and in basketball, its a small group that really become impact players Riley Pint is the sad example of some guys at the top that just cannot get it done. Matt Bush some yrs back, baseball draft evaluation is hard I think Mookie Betts was a 5th round pick. It is a crapshoot to get it right and you can run into bad luck with injuries before they get there

I hope Cusick does well, but I hope our coaching at the minor league level does not turn him into a nibbler once he gets a batter 0-2
One line I read on his scouting report is "His key to remaining a starter is to throw strikes more consistently" per the mlb website
We sure have seen that road before.
We will see. Big strong kid who can bring it we will see what he has - hope he throws strikes

Not fair, but panic is how it goes when things are not going well Actually, don't make that statement authoritatively as if it is universally true, because it isn't. Organizations that think that way are going to fail. Fans that think that way are going to be in a constant state of misery. So much so that you begin to wonder why they put themselves through it.
