Mattingly and the Marlins would rather take a bath in boiling oil than to help us. Any competitive deals out there with us and other teams, and they are going to choose "other teams".
To trade with us they would demand a rape, and we wouldn't ever want to give them the rape they desire that would help them beat us for years to come.
I think if ii was a bigger trade they would avoid dealing with us, but a rental who is likely not going to make much difference is another thing. They claim they aren’t throwing at Acuna on purpose, this trade would be nice P.R. move for them. They know they won’t get much for Marte so they need to just take the best deal.
Not sure what good a rental player does us at this point. May as well keep trotting the same AAAA guys out there and make moves in the offseason.
Why would we give up anything for a rental that will make no difference?
From what they keep saying, Marte loves Miami and wants to sign a deal there anyway. It wouldn't surprise me to see that anywhere near as much as it would to see us get him.
Because we're talking about giving up nothing that we have any future plans for anyway. Camargo won't be in a Braves uniform next year. Arcia, Heredia, Almonte, Adrianza are nothing that would hurt us to lose....
Why not take some kind of shot that Marte would make a difference and others would step up and the whole thing would maybe influence Marte to sign with us?
Or we could just stay status quo and wallow in our misery.
We also have about $7M of Ozuna's salary for the remainder of the season we should be able to spend really, are there any expensive veteran players that would also be rentals that could be had for a draft pick or something? Add two good rental outfielders? What can it hurt? If it doesn't help then so what.
I've never gone down without a fight and I never will.

Just look at what the Marlins gave up to get Marte. I don't think there was anything of long term value in there. I definitely agree we shouldn't give up anything of value, I think it can be done but who knows. I would just hate to see Marte traded for a bag of balls and us pass on it because we're just throwing in the towel.
"Compensatory" draft picks can be traded, I just looked it up, I have no idea what that even means.
I'm going to relax for a few days and not let all of this bother me, losing Acuna is really upsetting and just not fair to us, we've been through enough crap already without this. I have a feeling we're probably clearly going to be sellers because when we come back from the break our first 14 games are tough. We have Tampa Bay at home for 3, then San Diego at home for 3, then go to Philly and the Mets to play 4 each there. There's almost no way we go 7-7 without Acuna. AA would have to pull off a really good trade during the break for us to think we aren't going to about 4-10 in those games (or worse). Two days after that 14 game stretch the deadline will come, we should be about 8+ out by then and just dump everything we can. I'd be shocked if we see anything different. It may end being a blessing we have that tough schedule so we have no doubts when he dump it all.
I'd hold Arcia. He's still young and could still become a productive player.
He looks good sometimes, but he's had 1900 MLB PA's and has a career wRC+ of 71 so I won't be holding my breath on him.
He has a career OPS of .661 and is a skinny guy who swings for the fences. He did have two seasons with Milwaukee where he had 15 HR's each year, but think how unproductive a guy has to be overall to do that and still have such a low OPS.

Rumor has it that Nick is willing to come out of retirement and be our every day RFer through the end of 2022, and we don't have to pay him one cent, we just have to take him to Dairy Queen after every game for ice cream.
They were around .500 with Acuña, what will they be without him? 75 wins roughly?
Whoever did Soroka's surgery needs to not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Acuña.
75 wins would be a 31-43 finish. Hopefully it won't be THAT bad, but it certainly could be depending on what moves are made at or near the deadline. I seriously doubt home run Smith can be moved. Greene could be moved if he pitches better after the break. Freddie is our only rental, and that ain't happening. We don't have a lot of options, so barring something unforeseen, I'll say 78 wins, 34-40 after the break.
Without a doubt, the world's most knowledgeable baseball fan........and one of the most modest as well.
