Murphy is good enough: Every player with 400 HR's is in, and he hit 398 2x league MVP 7x All star 4x Silver Slugger 5x Gold glove 2x HR leader 2x RBI leader ...and those last 2 listed were 4 separate years where he dominated the offensive categories while being one of the top defensive CF in the game. Plenty good enough.. I should have said that Murphy not getting in is at least understandable based on numbers, not that he wasn't good enough, because there's no bigger fan of Dale Murphy than me. Hell, I wore #3 because of the guy. Murphy's case brings up another point that bugs me. Rose, Bonds, and Rodriguez (I despise all three of them, BTW) don't get in because of moral issues, but a guy like Murphy gets no points for practically being a saint? It's just typical of the process.

It's just typical of the process. And I'd be willing to bet a pretty hefty amount that all those roiders and cheaters will eventually be added to the HOF. As the moral standards in this country keep slipping, eventually people will call it nonsense that guys like that were left out of the HOF and will get them added. There's plenty of people who have been saying it already and it will keep gaining steam with time. I always hated Bonds, but the shame with him was that he was a HOF player before he used the roids, he just got greedy.

I agree that the Murph should be in.

I think I'm gonna let all of this crap go for a while, or at least until something happens (and from the looks of the board, I'm not the only one). I'm gonna enjoy my family, my dogs, and yes, my job for the next little while. If and when the multi-millionaire babies and the multi-billionaire babies can behave like grown men and get a contract worked out, that will be cool, and if not, that's cool, too. I am, quite honestly, growing sick of sports and the devastation that money has done to it......both college and professional. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people earning as much money as they can; in fact, more power to them. It's what makes America such a great country.
At any rate, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. What a great, funky, weird, roller-coaster-ride of a baseball season we had! It was glorious and something that I will NEVER forget. Also, PLEASE don't allow the media and a particular political party ruin your holidays. Screw them, too! I'm 60 years old and I fully intend to keep living my life as it was meant to be lived. The Good Lord only gives us one life to live..........ENJOY IT!!

It sure was a satisfying season for Braves fans and the way it ended in 2021 makes whatever easier to take.
Hey, its just big business this day in time but its still entertainment for me. MLB is the one sport I will for sure be back to. The NFL still has some appeal and NHL I still will have a casual interest in.
Happy Holidays and for now not much baseball news so I can chill on that.
And as for the Hall of Fame (its still a thing for me) one thing that matters is where you play and the popularity and profile of the team the guy played for.
Also longevity which adds to the compilation numbers.
One great example to me is Brooks Robinson getting in on the first ballot and poor old Ron Santo did not get to enjoy the honor in his lifetime.
Now, they both deserve it but Santo had better hitting numbers and Santo was a consistent gold glove third baseman in his own right. I need not quote anything - baseball reference which is my go to tells it as it is. The WAR for both players was in the 70s. Santo played a few less yrs but their time as a regular was near the same yrs
Tony Perez - very good but being on the big Red Machine helped his profile
Harold Baines - guess they looked at the 1628 RBIs and 2866 hits. 1500 RBI seems to be that HOF number. And some friends in Chicago had to have pushed that one. Not my favorite choice
As for this yr, Minnesota had to have some lobbying in this vote (Kaat and Oliva) - I do disagree on those two but so what
I liked keystone's final comment on the last post - I do my best to avoid that political party and Merry Christmas is not out of style in my book
Its an imperfect process, not easy to get 75 percent of people to agree on anything

The Good Lord only gives us one life to live..........ENJOY IT!! I can relate! I was planning on backing off with my business and taking a yuge break from sports and the internets, but my business took off with all this virus BS and it’s just now slowing down. So I’m ready to back way off. I was almost done when they moved our ASG. It’s such a blessing for me that we won it all this year because we deserve it and if this is it with sports I’m totally cool with that. FYI the NHL just went on “pause” until December 27th for fear of the sniffle and sneeze virus variant. I don’t see what’s going to happen between now and then to get them playing again. So get ready, we’re about to see lockdowns like we’ve never imagined, they are going to go for it all now and they’ll get it if enough people don’t fight it. Hope you have a good Christmas and can enjoy life, whether it’s with or without sports. I’m 60 also and ready to focus on what’s really important in this world.

I double dare baseball to strike and not play at all in 2022. Lets see how they like paying those mega millions contracts with 2,000 fans in each park every night and no TV viewers.

Well it is going to be slow with them in a lockout. There's only so many times you can say the same thing over and over again with no new news to change the narrative.

It’s the exact same thing with free agents and trade deadlines. Nothing gets done until the last possible minute and sometimes not even then.

From an entertainment point of view, I do not think that I can replace the void sports has provided me over the yrs though the games and numbers of the game has changed to where I do not enjoy the simplicity that I once enjoyed.
But the game in of itself is still enjoyable though I miss the days of workhorse starting pitchers like our big 3, Spahn and Knucksie.
The movies and music do not do it for me this day in time & the news stuff well, you know what it is this day in time
TV and its reality shows are garbage - the Bachelor type of programs to me should be illegal in my book. Stupefies a generation if I were dictator all contestants and producers would be arrested on the spot
Okay, just sort of joking on that one but I just have no stomach for that series
Guess I can go to sports reference and look up the past fun stats of the past that relate to my generation.
I am 65 and just cannot replace the void. Its really all I am interested in as far as entertainment. Too much in my blood,
There are other things in life but just posting as far as entertainment is.

I never liked the guy, but I'll give him credit he's a pretty decent color commentator as they go. But I don't think he belongs in the HOF even though he has the 59.4 career WAR.
.296/.384/.436/.821
131 career wRC+ good defensive 1st baseman 11.8% career strikeout rate while walking 12.5% 2182 hits 426 2Bs 60 3Bs
162 HRs 1071 RBI
Hit for good average and OBP, gap power and good glove......just a good overall player not an elite one IMO.
And from what I've heard he probably should lose points for being a dick as a teammate, I think that matters.

Not enough HRS and RBIs for that position for my liking. Not enough hits either - no where close to the magic number of 3000. If he was in the 2700 or 2800 I might say well, that is quite close. And being a dick as a teammate, yes that matters but there are guys who were dicks as teammates who were good enough to get in. Good player not an all time great. He was a two time WS champion guess being a dick did not affect those 82 Cardinals and 86 Muts, how many dicks were on that Muts team But I did have some issue with this vets committee vote - only ones I would have voted in was Hodges and Buck O Neil - O Neil more of being such a great ambassador of the game. He was really able to articulate what the Negro Leagues meant to the history of the game - just seemed like a great guy for the game In his own way he was like a Tommy Lasorda as being salesman to the game. Different people and history but as ambassadors to the game they were both great contributors. And another name I would consider as a contributor - and call me crazy if you want to is Don Zimmer for just being a great baseball man - an asset to the coaching staffs he served on. Another ambassador to the game - to me it was his longevity and rest assured he was an asset to Joe Torre on those great NYY teams as much as we hated them - not that great of a player or even a manager but just a contributor to the game.

Big Papi the only player to be voted into the Hall of Fame for 2022. Both Bonds and Clemens fail to make it in the last year they are eligible. I'm OK with both of those outcomes.

I think he probably started the drugs during or after his age 34 season (1999), and at that point he already had accumulated 100 WAR in his career.
From 1986 through 1999:
.288/.409/.559/.968 with a 158 wRC+.
445 HR and 460 SB during that period, and to this day he's the only major league player to ever hit 400+ HRs and steal 400+ bases in AN ENTIRE CAREER.
13% strikeout rate.
102.5 WAR.
All of that before he doped up. I always disliked him but did admire what a great athlete he was before the drugs, really too bad he threw it all away.
