Snitker brings in his "throw in the towel" go to guy.
He had Luke up last inning, the way Luke has been pitching this would have been a good place to use him.
Not so sure with one more game to go that you want to burn your best reliever down by 2. Bringing in Tomlin was a mistake, but I’m glad we didn’t use Luke there. I can agree with that, but Tomlin is only a good choice if we're either wining or losing by 10+ runs.

I don't think you build a pitching staff with a designated 10-run guy, do you?

Why is Newcomb on the roster again?

Might make sense to keep Luke fresh for game 2 but only being down by 2, you are still in the game Wish it were someone else than Tomlin though With 2nd and 3rd and no one out, more than likely he comes in and gives up at least one run. I think it was smart to hold him back but then, stupid to go with Tomlin.

Newcomb is obviously never going to be able to throw strikes. There's a long list of guys with great arms that couldn't throw strikes on the baseball garbage heap. He's one of them.

Now Kramnutz comes out....to spread his wisdom.

The problem with Newcomb is he has NEVER been able to throw strikes. Not in the minors and not in the majors. The guy obviously has good stuff, but the time to give up on him has long passed. It just ain't gonna happen. Maybe a change of scenery, different coaches, different pitching philosophies, whatever. But we'd be better off if we just DFA'd him, got nothing in return and moved on.

Now Kramnutz comes out....to spread his wisdom. He belched and farted and said "I dont know what you're doing wrong but stop it."

Now Kramnutz comes out....to spread his wisdom. Wisdom? About what? Growing corn? Good fishing spots? I'm just curious, because it sure as hell ain't wisdom about pitching.

Why is Wainwright still in the game? Strikes me as an odd thing to do. It's a low stress game, so I guess that's the thinking. We've sure made him look good today, I know that much.

Kevin McAlpin @kevinmcalpin Sean Newcomb gave up three runs in the sixth, with three walks, including one to Wainwright and another to Arenado with the bases loaded.
Newcomb has now allowed 13 ER and walked 13 batters over his last 14 IP, spanning 16 appearances.
