I can't cheat anymore, no fair!!! Didn't Mazzone say our HOF pitchers used pine tar? To what extent, if any, I never heard much come out from him saying that, but a bunch of Braves fans rolling their eyes. Did any good information come from that, because I felt Braves fans thought it was just classless and wanted the story to go away. MLB is a mess though, I can sympathize with a pitcher who just want's better control over someone who wants to gain rpm's in a league where everyone just plays stupid about how much the baseballs have changed over the years. All we've heard was pitchers complain about the seams on the baseball and MLB is directly involved in making the baseballs.. MLB says we're going to change the baseballs, not next year but in 2021. Like what a bunch of crock psycho crap is that? Like I said fly ball pitchers can be out of the league super fast because a pop up is going 20+ feet over the wall. Making a suitable baseball for pitchers and hitters shouldn't be this polarizing, but sure enough Manfred and his shady baseball dealings has caused this chaos. It'd be nice to give him a lifetime ban. Love him or hate him, Bauer did the right thing to say he's going to use illegal substances because MLB isn't going to anything about it. Even that Met's hitter made a good argument for the hitters safety on pitchers throwing 95+ and the need to have control on these baseballs. I'm not saying these illegal substance is right, but at least we're now admitting there is a problem. I commend Glasnow's honesty, it's a real broad perspective from pitchers I feel. Now the ones using illegal substances to gain rpm's, I'm not seeing a good defense for that other than they want a superb pay day. All I know is baseball is a real joke today, talking about moving the rubber back and blah blah, while sweeping the cheating under the rug. I'd like to think more and more good will come from this because now I think we're seeing the root of the problem on all counts. I'm intrigued by what more information we'll learn from this. Lastly, on to a different topic, I'd like to say the shift has ruined the game and should have limits. That's the best thing I can see to help the hitters. Hitters want to lift the ball, one because the juiced ball really flies, but second you don't want to hit in a shift for an easy out or easy double play. Trying to go opposite field usually just results in a single and loses potential power. Baseball never did these dramatic shifts for years and no one ever thought to complain. It really takes the fun out of baseball. Watching someone like McCann it really effected his game. Also we want to watch the defense make outstanding plays. i think most baseball players would love to see a shift limit, with maybe a few exceptions, like playing the infield in. This video Bauer has a solution and addressed to MLB for last couple of years to no avail.

I hate to sound like an old-timer or a stick-in-the-mud, but analytics is at the root of all this stuff, and it's absolutely killing baseball. Analytics is fine for evaluating players, but all this stuff about velocity, spin-rates, extreme infield shifts, etc. is a killer. It is sucking all of the fun out of the game. There's nothing wrong with a pitcher using a rosin back or whatever to keep his hands dry enough to pitch, but that should be about it.
I used to love to watch the occasional freaks who came along (Nolan Ryan, Vida Blue, etc) and threw 95-100+ MPH, but now everybody is doing it. Those guys did it naturally, and that's great, but now it's learned out of necessity.......teams won't look at them otherwise. Putting the genie (or genies) back in the bottle is impossible, so I think the foreign substance enforcement is a good starting point. If a guy has been depending on something like that to have some semblance of control, he has no business in the game to begin with as far as I'm concerned. I'm ready to get back to baseball. I'm tired of this walk/K/HR game that's played now.......it's NOT baseball.

The shift was brought about because of our ability to quickly analyze every batted ball... location, exit velo, launch angle, etc. The defense adjusted and then everything else fed off of that; batters became concerned with launch angles to go over the shift and on and on.
What they should do in light of what it was done to the game is make a rule stating two infielders must be to each side of the diamond, period. Draw a line from home plate through second base.
Other issues mentioned like monkeying with the baseball is why I am such a staunch supporter in most cases of leaving the game alone. All of that started when some idiot decided the game needed more HR's to bring fans back after the strike. Every since then they have been chasing the right thing because of the unintended consequences the change caused. They juiced it.. then they realized they juiced it too much, so they unjuiced it. Then they started messing with the stitching and gads knows what else.. it's a closely guarded secret.
Pine tar and goop issues... it's always been illegal to have a substance on the ball. Period. If what pitchers are doing affects the movement of the ball because the substance gets on the ball itself, then it's wrong. Do the tests... have pitchers throw some balls with using whatever and then do a controlled test of those balls vs new clean balls and then go from there.

Garrett Richards from the Braves game last night is also blaming the issues that he had on the fact that he can no longer cheat. This is not just happening in baseball, it's happening all across American society if you open your eyes and look.

Okay, but keep the conversation here about it happening in baseball.
