Morton is fully capable of losing this one on his own, but it's good to know the gashouse gang is there to blow it just in case he happens to pitch well.

Morton has actually been fair this yr, leads the team in IP and is 5-2, 4.21 not horrific ERA
But hey, the pen looks more and more unfixable, and this team is generally too HR dependent
If HRS are not clubbed this team does a poor job taking advantage of opportunity. That is why we are third.

With Atlanta coming to town, Duvall is licking his chops. He's warming up for them by hitting a 2 run HR tonight in the Marlins rout as they lead the Rockies 11-4 in the 8th inning.
On a side note, Josh Donaldson is hitting .243 with 6 HR and 22 RBI. His OPS is .775. Starling Marte is now hitting .360 with an OPS well over 1.000. Alcantra has an ERA of 3.30 and only gives up 1 HR every 10 IP.

That is why we are third. Braves have the 8th best average in all of baseball with runners in scoring position and are 5th in OPS with runners in scoring position. On the other hand Braves relievers have the 5th worse ERA and 7th worse WHIP. Starters are in the middle of the pack in ERA (14th) and WHIP (16th).

Some good news from The Stripers anyway.......
They beat Memphis 11-0 Thursday night, which means they've taken 8 out of 9 games from Memphis so far this year. Memphis is the Cardinals AAA team, so suck it Cardinals.
Pache had three hits including a pair of home runs, one was a bomb. Camargo had 4 hits including a long home run.
Best Striper news of all though, Bryse Wilson was sporting a buzz cut hairdo Wednesday night. w00t.

The overall offensive numbers are better than the overall consistency that we see from the team on a day to day basis. The last two games are an example of that. Sure they have strong OPS numbers, they hit alot of HRS, tied for MLB lead at last check. But they hit the hell out of the ball for a couple of games and a couple of nights after that, they flunk out of school. Its the consistency that is less than the raw numbers. This team is very HR dependent and not consistent As for the SP, overall its been very respectable, I wonder where they rank in getting 6 innings out of the starters. Because without numbers in front of me I see a very decent amount of games where the SP has gone 6 and even 7. We saw it two games in a row in this PHL series and it was high quality starts The pen, well, that speaks for itself. Its that inability to make the key play, get that key hit or out at the right time that has made the Braves 29-31 instead of say, 36-24 - which would be a record that would be very acceptable. Even 35-25 and keeping that pace will win you a division in most cases.

Especially with the need to replace that unmentionable player Do the Braves have what it would take to get him in trade.

We definitely have been lacking getting the big hit, especially late in close games whether it be to add on, take the lead or come from behind and with our bullpen that has become even more important. Last night we had a chance to add on even more runs in extras and the only run we got besides the free runner was because of a passed ball.

True enough, but you cannot have a baseball team where one component of that team is as weak as the Atlanta Braves bullpen. All teams have weaknesses, but you can't be good when one of those weaknesses is as glaring as this bullpen. It's not just about the numbers with this pen, either. It's more about the fact that they CHOKE almost every time. They're a weak, gutless bunch of pitchers as a whole. There isn't a leader down there. There isn't one guy with brass balls down there. They suck. If the entire bunch were sent packing, all I could say would be "don't let the door hit you". I have never been so sick of watching a bunch of wusses in my life. Pathetic.

With Freeman not hitting and Acuña and Dansby being pretty streaky, the offense is going to be terribly inconsistent.
That's really not the issue though as I think it's 16 games now where the bullpen has blown the lead in a loss.
It's pretty simple... With starters going 5-6 innings, mandatory 3 batters, and that abysmal extra inning rule; The bullpen is about the most important part of a team. Last year ours was great and we were 1 game away from the WS. This year ours is terrible and we suck.
Even with Ozuna and even with Freddie sucking like an open chest wound, we're 3-4 games in front with last years results out of our pen.
That pretty much sums it up.

Yep, everything else is pretty irrelevant given the pen's suckitude. 16 games you say? Win half of those, just half of them, and this team is 37-23, which would be 1/2 game behind the best record in the NL. People can blather on about Freddie, Ozuna, injuries, blah blah blah, all they want. The bullpen is what's wrong with this team. And that falls pretty squarely on the shoulders of AA.

How about this for a proposed trade
To the Braves -- Starling Marte
To the Marlins -- Kyle Wright, Braden Shewmake and maybe one other OF prospect in the lower minors but Anthony Harris would be untouchable.
It would be good if we could get Marte for Wright and Shewmake. That would be a steal for the Braves
I do not want to move Langliers, Waters, Pache and prefer to keep Davisson, Bryse Wilson, Mueller and Anthony Harris unless a deal blows you off your feet.
I would love to salvage something for Kyle Wright and Shewmake is highly questionable.
Would not mind offering Newcomb with Wight and Shewmake for Marte.

No way I'd give up Wright or Shewmake. They both may very well wind up on the scrap heap, but you don't give them up for a rental. IMO. Braves should have traded for Marte when the Marlins got him. That was a sizable blunder by AA. Alex is a bit too hesitant to pull the trigger when ESTABLISHED BIG LEAGUE PLAYERS are available. The Marlins paid about what you're suggesting or less, when he had a full year left on his deal.

Marte is a UFA after this season, no way I'm trading Wright for him.
I have no clue what it would take to get him but it shouldn't be that much, the Marlins didn't have to give up that much for him when they acquired him. We should have grabbed him then.
But he's a perfect fit now, just as he was before when I was championing the idea.
