Why not Sandoval at third? I don't care about his build he is hitting in limited action and he was not that bad a third baseman in his young days
No surprise that Smyly once again has broken down, AA would have been wiser to spend his limited resources elsewhere. He knew his history and other than last yrs church league season in limited action he had not been good since he was a younger prospect in the Detroit system. At least its for only one yr with him
As for shoring up the pen, any word on Shane Greene? He would be more useful then some of what is thrown out there as of late. Of course when guys sign late you never know how sharp they are, but at least we know him. Very peculiar why he has not gotten a deal
One question out there -- when is there going to be a real minor league season again? I am guessing that stunted Pache's development by having no real minor league season given what we are seeing out there. He sure can play center hope he gets healthy and learns to hit in mlb

I am going to call this not necessarily a MUST win but a much need win - want to get within 2 games under .500
6-8 at least is close enough to the 500 mark, you really do not want to get that far below 500 even in a slow start. Just stay within 500 even in the early going
The better you are in April the easier you make it for yourself later on - you do not want to be 10 under in June, the 2019 Nats were an exception to the general rule

Looks like we are in trouble, big time.

Looks like we are in trouble, big time. It does feel that way right now. It will be a big lift if we can get some good work from Kyle Wright and he can show he can consistently throw strikes at this level and trust his stuff. We have gotten a lift from Ynoa. And I do think that Ian and Morton will be okay. Of course, Ian is young and still in the learning stage too. As for Fried, might as well be sure he is right before he comes back that is a big loss. We need him to be his good self when he is able to come back As been discussed, Smyly was never a popular sign especially for the money and his overall lack of significant accomplishment. AA got taken to the cleaners on that one The pen is not as deep and effective as we hoped. But there are some good pieces there. Why Greene is not back and to my knowledge not signed by anyone is a qood question.

David O'Brien @dobrienatl Adrianza at third base in place of slumping Austin Riley against righty Zach Davies.

Looks like we are in trouble, big time. Smiley, Fried, and Martin down. Starting pitching starting to look like being patchwork again, Soroka looks to be iffy, and the relief corps isn't as good either. Last year $17M ( ~$7M prorated for nothing from Hamels) and now $11M for who knows what from Smiley. I don't expect Ozuna or d'Arnaud to repeat last years numbers either so the offense isn't going to bail out the starts like those of Milone, Erlin, Wright etc. of last year unless 2 or 3 of Ozzie, Dansby, Ender, Riley start hitting. We didn't sign a 25-30 HR guy to replace Duvall so one less guy to count on for power, especially late. The guy hit 16 HR in a 200 AB season and is good for 1 every 12-13 AB. I know he gets streaky but it was far better than what we have now. I'm curious as to why Wright got the start instead of Bryce Wilson unless Wilson had just pitched at the alternate site or maybe he's hurt too.

First pitch from Davies to Acuna: 87mph swinging STRIKE 46 chilly degrees, partly cloudy, 18mph wind--blowing in

Another walk for Acuña. He's about to absolutely destroy this league now that the final piece in his offensive repertoire appears to be solidifying.

Leadoff walk, then the rest of the pathetic hitters takes over.

I'd like to see a Lou Gehrig situation with Riley. Adrianza comes in for a game and never gives it up.

I'm going to predict that the way ex-Brave Duvall hit the daylights out of our pitching, if Kimbrel gets in, he'll strike everyone out.

Ahhhh, the crap is starting early. Contreras must like to get hit since he doesn't move when the pitch is at him.

Kyle Wright gives up a sharp single and hits the next batter. Seems vaguely familiar.....

Looks like 2 inept offenses on the field today

Wright does a good job getting out of that mess. Now get some runs, men.
