David O'Brien @dobrienatl Snit said Jackson is the backup over Contreras because the #Braves don't see Contreras as a backup, and he's played only 60 games above A-ball (none in Triple A) and they want him to play every day at the alternate site and Triple A. Too valuable to not continue his development.

David O'Brien @dobrienatl “All I can say as a former player is, he’s different. And the last time I saw a player when I said he was different, that was Chipper Jones, that was Barry Bonds, that was Gary Sheffield..." -- Marquis Grissom on #Braves prospect Michael Harris.

We might be seeing the last of Camargo................. It would be best for us and for him.
They really screwed up not moving him when we signed Donaldson because he had value and interest.

Yeah, and I was a big believer in Camargo. I thought he got a raw deal. I was wrong.

I think we raw dealed him, but at some point you have to man up and prove them wrong. Despite strong minor league off season stuff, he kept coming back here and floundering.
I wish him well... somewhere. I just have zero faith it will ever be here.

Yeah, and I was a big believer in Camargo. I thought he got a raw deal. I was wrong. I see it as one of those things that just happen and is really nobody's fault. I can't blame the Braves for signing JD because it obviously worked out really well for that one season. I'm sure the Braves thought when they did it they had a good chance to sign JD for another 4 years after that. They clearly NEVER saw Camargo as a piece of the future, so why not go after an elite 3B. It also would have freed things up to use Riley as a really valuable trade piece and then also get some run of the mill backup for 3B in case JD got hurt. It had to become clear to Camargo that they never saw him as piece of the future, and that had to be really hard on his confidence. It would be for any young player. But he had value at that point and for everybody's sake he should have been moved. I'm sure it's hard on any young player to know the team has no faith in you. The fact is that he also has given them no reason to have faith in him in 2019 or 2020 and so far in 2021. I can't blame the Braves for doing what they did and I can't blame Camargo for not being able to handle the situation. Not many guys are going to hit well at the major league level getting 2,3,4, or 5 AB's per week. This is one of those rare times where I really believe a change of scenery would do a player good, I'd be willing to bet he would become an average or better every day MLB player if he goes somewhere where they let him know they believe in him and give him a chance to be an every day player again.
And on that note, they need to just move on from him now. Today. His contract was non guaranteed, so do him a favor and just cut him loose. When you are putting guys like Hechavarria, Rafael Ortega and Ehire Adrianza ahead of him on the depth chart, then just cut him loose. Adrianza has had a good spring but he's a career .670 OPS hitter.
I like Alex Jackson a lot, I hope things go well for him whatever that takes. For a guy who has not put up good numbers he has a good looking swing and a ton of power.

Yep... cut him unless someone will give you whatever for him, and if they will; take it.
I like Jackson as well... I just don't like the way we worded the reasoning for keeping him and sending Contreras back down. Tell Contreras in private that you see him as the future guy and want him to play everyday until that day. Leave it at that though and don't basically make it public that we see Jackson as a perennial backup.

But when Snitker sees him one of them baseball player guys, he gets all muddled in the head!
He still thinks Ender is one. I'll bet Snit has had to wear panty shields every day this spring to sop up all the moistness he has from batting Ender leadoff every game he plays in.

Mark Bowman@mlbbowman I liked the thought of keeping Contreras as the backup catcher for a month and then let him play everyday when the Triple-A season begins. But if d'Arnaud were to be sidelined, you would put Contreras into the primary role more comfortably knowing he'd been getting regular ABs
