I would definitely have interest in Brantley. Yeah, I would, too. He can't duplicate Ozuna's 2020.........but most likely, neither can Ozuna. Ozuna's season was really phenomenal, it really was.

Bauer or bust. Have some balls and spend for this guy. This team is ready right now to be legit for 4-5 years at least.

I'm not comparing Julio and Bauer (actually, I pretty much am), as they are light years apart from the mental aspects of the game, BUT their numbers through this date are EERILY similar, and they are the exact same age (10 days apart). In fact, Julio's WHIP is actually LOWER than Bauer's. All I'm saying is, Bauer is a helluva lot riskier than a lot of people want to admit, and he's gonna get BIG money (and no, he's not going to sign 1-year deals).

So we have Soroka, Fried, Anderson all pretty much set as rotation pieces. Soroka they say has a chance to be back from injury much earlier than people originally speculated.
Seems Wright has taken a step to solidifying a spot as well.
So we are looking at 1 spot and we still have Wilson who looked like he was ready.
I just don't see us ponying up for a Bauer for 4-5 years when we need to extend Freddie and prepare to do deals with our young pitchers as well. I see a mid-level veteran presents guy once again like they tried to do with Hamels.

I think we're much more likely to look at guys like Lester, Walker, and Archer.....especially Lester. He's older (the dreaded 36, in fact), but he's a guy who has won and won big, plus he's been durable. He also seems to want to be in Chicago, unfortunately.

We would obviously have to raise payroll to sign Bauer, but I think it's time to pony up and do that, and I've never taken that stance. But now is the time to solidify that top three elite starters that can absolutely stifle good offenses in the playoffs. Bauer, Soroka and Fried are possibly that trio right now. It's worth the added payroll to have the shutdown three starters and a great offense, and we would have that sewed up for at least 4-5 years. We would be competitive for a championship every year for that long. I'm not usually an advocate of "going for it," but most teams do that when they're 4-5 pieces short. We're probably two short--that third shutdown starter and a guy like Brantley or a comparable player. I don't like the idea of hoping Anderson is really as good already as he's looked. There are a lot of ways I could show by numbers that Bauer and Teheran are not similar in any way, but the eye test tells me that above all else. Nothing's a sure thing but I'd be willing to take my chances that Bauer is the real deal at this point.
Can you imagine Bauer, Fried, Soroka, Anderson and Wilson/Wright?
That would be hella different than 2020 starting pitching was!

That would be hella different than 2020 starting pitching was! Oh, I get you about Teheran and Bauer, that's why I said I wasn't comparing them. My point was that it's a BIG risk. Is Bauer really the guy you wanna put that wager on? I don't know. He's an odd dude, which MIGHT be a good thing. He'd be the lightning rod type guy that I think this staff needs, though. Tough call.

Bauer will just be 30 when next season starts, I don't see that as old. I assume he'll try to sign a 4-5 year deal, I'm fine with that. He's extremely dedicated to staying in shape and working on his mechanics, he looks pretty finely tuned to me right now. The veteran presents and his fire would fit right in, I feel like our core players have been showing that fire this year and in the playoffs. Let's reward them!
(and in reality we'll sign Julio and Markakis).
sigh...........

Just say no to Julio......and Neck. If we sign Julio and Neck you'll all be glad I'm taking an extended sabbatical because I'd make you all more miserable than sweatyfartmuffinface does.

Well if we could or would do that, and extend Freddie, and lock up Soroka, Fried, and Anderson and not end up having a fire-sale 4 years from now... sign me up. I'll even try not to get mad when Bauer goes back home to Tralfamador.

I'll even try not to get mad when Bauer goes back home to Tralfamador. I see it as a possibility because AA has said several times we would be willing to spend bigger if want to. The problem with that is most fans think that meant just go crazy, whilst our management and owner were willing to do that only if it made a LOT of sense. Smart business. And it makes sense now.
How long would it take Snitker to make Bauer throw another ball over the CF wall?
6 outings?

Yeah, the time is now. Some of our key guys still have some work to do. Acuña and GAPOZ need to work on situational hitting, Dansby on consistency, etc., but hopefully those things come with maturity. We definitely should have a nice window for the next 5 years at least. At the same time, the farm needs to be tended. Big contracts for pitchers are incredibly risky. There's no guarantee we can sign Bauer anyway. He's from LA, IIRC, so if the Dodgers want him, they'll probably get him.

Congrats to los Bravos! Kinda hard to figure how Juña got one, though. I guess it's OPS driven?
