He’s thrown his slider 86% of the time? That’s absurd. Good point. Doesn't sound sustainable, does it? Yeah because a good slider ends up out of the strike zone. If guys went up looking for it and laying off the low ones he would have to adjust his location or frequency.

The Athletic’s Dan Hayes profiles breakout Twins reliever Matt Wisler, whom the organization claimed off waivers from the Mariners early last offseason. Hayes notes that the Twins had Wisler atop their wishlist of potential minor league free agents but were happy to be able to claim him instead when he hit waivers. Pitching coach Wes Johnson tells Hayes he was “ecstatic” when the Twins, who were near the bottom of the waiver pecking order, were awarded the claim. Johnson attributed the Wisler interest to Minnesota’s “phenomenal” team of developers, who helped to identify him as a breakout candidate. “We get a lot of information,” said Johnson. “…What you see is you see Matt Wisler has tremendous vertical depth up and down and he has late movement on that.” Wisler has thrown his slider at an outrageous 86 percent clip en route to a 1.11 ERA and a 34-to-14 K/BB ratio through 24 1/3 frames with Minnesota. Hayes also chatted with Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey and Wisler himself about the right-hander’s turnaround. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the Braves' pitching development. Hopefully, the powers-that-be are aware of the shortcomings we have in that area and are taking steps to improve it. We liked Wisler and thought he had good stuff, but it didn't work out here. We gave him multiple chances... there was no consistency.. we traded him for Duvall. Not sure our organization ever said we think he sucks and has nothing to offer.

*** WEATHER UPDATE*** 23 Sep 2020 3:30 PM EDT Atlanta Metro Area Metman Weather Services BRAVES GAME FORECAST
Synopsis: Generally cloudy but favorable weather tonight under the influence of a high pressure ridge but as the ridge breaks down moisture from TS Beta will overspread the area on Thursday and into Friday. Rainfall totals are a bit less than previously thought on Monday because the expected path of Beta and the remnants has changed slightly. Expect .5-1" of rain in the Atlanta Metro Area Thursday into Friday but some a slight deviation with the remnant moisture could bring up to 2" or more of precipitation in some areas, mainly to the areas north of the metro area in northern GA. Clearing should begin Friday afternoon as the remnants from TS Beta dissipate bringing party cloudy skies for Friday evening.
Tonight Should be a good night for a game. Mostly cloudy skies with a game time temperature in the upper 60's to low 70's. Temperatures should dip just into the mid 60's tonight by 10/11 PM. A few sprinkles are possible. Light winds.
Thursday Intermittent showers move into the area later Thursday morning and persist throughout the day becoming more continuous and just occasionally intermittent in the afternoon and evening and extending overnight into Friday morning. A rumble of thunder is possible but no severe weather is expected. Temperatures will remain fairly steady throughout the day in the mid 60's to low 70's. Looks unlikely for a Thursday night game at this time.
Friday A few morning showers with a light shower possible in the early afternoon then gradual clearing through the afternoon with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low to mid 70's at game time and dipping to 70 or just below later in the evening. Generally light winds.

As evidenced by that massive stretch of 24 innings. I wish him well and hope he does great. When he was here though, people couldn't wait to throw him down the elevator shaft.

I am happy with Duvall, our system gave Wisler plenty of chances and he was not good enough here
Like Lucas Sims, lets see him have a sustainable body of work that will last
Actually Wisler did look pretty good his first yr when he first came up. Did he not start out 4-1 or something like that with a good ERA. Of course it did not sustain, he regressed and wound up finishing with a 4.71 ERA in 2015 and 5.00 the next yr
I wish em all well when they are not pitching vs the Braves
Note that he has bounced around a bit since he left the Braves so we will see how sustainable this is for him

When he was here though, people couldn't wait to throw him down the elevator shaft. Wisler had several good games with us, one or two great ones, where it seemed pretty obvious he had really good stuff, but for the most part he was pretty bad most of the time. Command problems mostly from what I recall, a very common theme with our young pitchers. It takes a lot for me to give up on a guy when I see a lot of potential, and I saw it with Wisler, but I had given up on him by the time he left. If someone saved him and he maintains a good level of production then good for all of them.
