at every level it all needs to be changed. 99% od what has come through the system has been pure garbage like what we are seeing now. For every Fried and Soroka there are 5 times as many who are completely incompetent. And that falls on the organization. Blatantly obvious rbis organization sucks at developing pitchers. Might be time for a rebuild of sorts from AAA down to rookie league.
It is just pitiful. No other way to describe it.

So, who is the first to go. Who is behind the pitching development.
And, this has been going on for a while, but its at its worst with those Hart/Coppy era when the pitching got collected in bunches and at the MLB level its totally out to lunch.
At least in the Wren era, we did see pitchers develop and got cut short due to injury, but we did get something out of Hanson/Beachy/Jurrjens, Minor and Hanson
And not to mention the regression of Teheran after 2014. Seems like there was a regime change after that heh?
And late in the Scheurholz era, some of the pitching development, while making it initially like Chuck James and Horacio Ramirez some of those guys flamed out per injury. We had some failures in that era like Jo Jo and Kyle Davies.
Could it be that all that collection of young pitching in that rebuilding era was not as good as it was thought to be? Was Kyle Wright overrated? Do not know about Anderson yet.
Seems like the worst of the pitching development has been in that Hart/Coppy era. Who is running this thing in the system and are they holdovers from prior administrations?

Raid their scouting and development. We are already late to the party as they will need time to make a difference.

Find guys that can throw strikes and go from there. That's the biggest problem with these guys, they can't throw strikes. The best pitchers get bombed occasionally, but they don't walk guys left and right. Whether that is development or not, I don't know, but it has to start there. The way these kids walk guys is comical.

If memory serves they wanted Boolio to throw that 2 seam more, and it got bombed. They changed folty, it didn’t work. Lucas sims is on record saying they altered him. I mean the evidence is stacking high.

I watch Newk, Folty, Touki... they have different arm angles, different landing points.. they are all over the place. Nothing is consistently repeatable.

That's a word that comes up often when they talk about Ian Anderson. I like that, and it's a big reason why I'm anxious to see him pitch.

I’m new to the forum, so this is my first post. I agree that there’s something wrong with our system. I haven’t been crazy about the last couple of choices for our pitching coach. But do you think that some of the problem is the whole MLB mentality about pitching. It’s all about velocity. If you can’t get it over the plate, it doesn’t matter if you throw 100 mph. Most of the pitchers today have no idea about the art of pitching. They’re just throwers. Folty is a perfect example of this. He always looks like he’s coming out of his shoes when he “throws.” By the 4th inning he has thrown 90-100 pitches because he has no real control. This also contributes a lot to the length of games. Pitchers are continually going into deep counts. If these young players were taught how to pitch instead of getting their velocity up, just maybe the quality of their game would improve.

Yes several of us have been saying the same thing for awhile now.

Absolutely agree and as Uckery noted above we've talked about it a lot. It seems when they struggle that every pitch is absolutely max-effort. When Wright blew up the other day it looked as if he thought throwing it even harder would give him better control. They let him come out to start the next inning after his multiple walks the inning before and it was a 4 pitch walk where he looked like he was trying to throw the ball through the net behind home.

I was not happy with our choice of Kranitz from the beginning either. I do think the problem is all thru our system so we probably just need to flush the entire system when it comes to pitching coaching and philosophy.

Velocity is great if it's natural. deGrom throws 98 effortlessly, for example. They're asking guys to do more than they're capable of doing.

Whether it’s Wright who was rushed or Anderson who was “developed” the organization is failing to develop control in these uber talented prospects. Fried feels like a small miracle and Soroka was going to be a polished fast riser no matter the organization. Outside of that we have zero development. Touki and Newcomb have the kind of stuff that should at least translate to a Vizzy type reliever, watching them is borderline pathetic... These days I cringe checking the box score BB category every night. Just hoping AA doesn’t go after Gilmartin/Minor players in the draft to try and compensate with more polish and less talent.
