The way I see it now, it is no longer logical to expect anything significant from 2020, the quality and experience in the rotation is just no longer there(was thin to begin with). I think now the focus has to turn towards this being a rebuild on the fly. Lineup is fine, but rotation is just eww right now and would be a guaranteed first round elimination if they somehow make it.
The thing to do now would be to get guys like Weigel,Davidson,and Anderson an early look into what it is like to face big league hitters with the goal of heading into 2021 of having an idea of which, if any of these guys have developed enough for a permanent spot in the rotation. With Soroka out for most of next year as well,it is imperative these young guys seize the opportunity to become a part of the solution. Again, just forget about 2020 and focus on these young pitchers and watch their development. Perhaps in the offseason a trade for a veteran could be made to help Fried and a couple other young guys stabilize the rotation. 2020 is a lost cause from a competitive standpoint now. Fried can only do so much himself, and there is just no way having Newcomb, Toussaint, or Wright behind him would fly far in the postseason.

I think they’ll continue along giving full effort to win until we actually stop winning. We still have a pretty talented offense and a good pen. I see zero chance we could compete seriously in the playoffs, but you have to give it a few weeks to see how the players are going to respond. If we go 2-12 then I could see shifting the focus.

I still think this team is good enough to make the 16 team playoff format. If they can get help for this yr without giving up too much I can see them doing it, but this is still a pretty young team so I still say go for it as best you can
Most of what we have should be ready for 2021 and by then a guy like Wright for example who will get valuable experience just may get much better as 2020 goes on.
I would not do something like trade Ozuna for low level prospects, that would be giving up the ghost. And what do mid and low level prospects really do for you, you get scrubs like Tyrel Jenkins and Chris Ellis types, but if real legit guys who can help next yr are offered then of course keep an open mind.
Just not another tear down like the Hart/Coppy one I hope never to see that again
I do not think anyone is advocating that - what misery that was that 3 yr period sucked and most of those young pitchers really were not very good

Trading for someone's SP is hard to do this day in time - I got a hunch that Wright just might get alot better - I hope so
A solid mid tier FA with a reasonable contract that does not hamstring the franchise makes sense in the off season but got to make sure its a healthy arm. Hamels made sense but it did not work

I don’t think we have a snowball’s chance in hell in the playoffs but we owe it to them to see how they’re going to respond. Pache and Waters and Anderson are the only ones being “held back” right now and none of them may even be ready yet, can’t try to bring a guy along too soon and damage them. Wonder what the odds are in Vegas right now of Folty coming back and winning the Cy Young, lol......long enough odds that you could put down $100 and never have to work again if it happened? LMFAO at the thought. |

I hope that in Soroka's case his career is not going to mirror that of Medlen, Beachy, Jurrjens and Hanson, guys who got their careers cut short due to major injury - all different circumstances but these are guys who should have had good to great careers
This is the second time in three yrs we have seen a major injury to Soroka. Two yrs ago the arm trouble and now this. This guy could be so good

You can thank your hero Frank Wren for that rebuild. But I’m not getting into that argument again we’ve been thru it too many times as it is. I still have bad flashbacks of those bad three years - not intending to get back to the argument again but that time from September of 2014 (the collapse) and the 3 yrs (2015 to 2017) is something I never want to see again. Hope we do not have to do that again. In Alex I trust and I think he will do something good - he did it with the pen at last yrs trade deadline. |

I think it's going to be very difficult to trade for a pitcher during this shortened season. First of all the trade deadline is August 31st...that is not a lot of time for things to shake out and teams be willing to trade someone. Besides that, with the expanded playoffs there are going to be a lot more teams...maybe everyone...still in the running for a playoff spot by the deadline. I say they kick the tires on a few of the young prospects and patch together a rotation leaning heavily on the pen...we can just look at this season as a long "spring training" session in preparation for 2021.

I would not put an asterik on whoever wins the series this yr cause no one could have predicted this & everyone is playing under the same rules (well, as far as we know at this time)
Its not like the '17 Ass-tros who did not have to do what they did they were good enough to do it right
Would be ironic if the Ass-tros do win it all - my rent money is on the Yankees assuming health as much as I want to be wrong. Anyone but the NYY and Lakers in the NBA my two most hated franchises in sports
I do not watch the series if the NYY are in there - same w/the LAL in the NBA
If the Braves get to the playoffs and go down in round one, under all circumstances I would call this a successful yr and try to be better in 2021 and beyond - nucleus is still young but our SP guys have to grow a pair and be men in this game
