Commissioner Rob Manfred said MLB would forge ahead despite the Marlins' outbreak.
“Obviously, we don’t want any player to get exposed. It’s not a positive thing,” Manfred said Monday night on the MLB Network. “But I don’t see it as a nightmare. ... We think we can keep people safe and continue to play.”

They're viruses. They spread. That's what viruses do.

That's what viruses do. of course, but this is a virus that unlike many, does not yet have a vaccine or any one bona-fide treatment for it. From the sounds of things, Freeman was quite ill when he had it; 104.5 degree temp, etc. The fact it can spread so easily with no established effective treatment regimen is scary. People who get it right now are basically left to hope their own body can fight it off(which a great many do) on its own, but some get so overwhelmed by it they wind up on a ventilator and keep having to have blood pressure support, and some worse yet die, and its not a pleasant death. If we had an effective vaccine now and a treatment regimen besides supportive care that is proven to work, I would be a little more optimistic about the season outlook.

If we had an effective vaccine now and a treatment regimen besides supportive care that is proven to work, I would be a little more optimistic about the season outlook. I do agree it's a horrible thing for those who do have problems with it, but more than 99% of the people who get it don't have bad problems, and a huge majority of those who do have bad problems are more than 70 years of age. The other side of it is there are no proven facts yet on how it is transmitted and how to avoid getting it. I just don't see hiding and shutting everything down long term as a viable option because the virus is not going to just go away. We're all going to get it and 99+% of us are going to be ok. It sucks if you're the odd man out, but the same is true of cancer and car wrecks and other bad ways we can die. Falling into a pool and hitting your head and downing is horrific too but it happens to a very small number of people.
