8 more players and 2 coaches for the Miami Marlins have tested posifive for Covid19. Bringing the total to 14 in a matter of days. As such, their game has been canceled. Unfortunately o suspect this is just the first domino to fall and eventually all of MLB will be shut down again.

What's the purpose of having 60 available players if they're going to cancel games for multiple positive tests?

I have no idea. But it seems to me the virus is simply too out of control to avoid a shutdown. Miami went from 4 infected to 14 in the blink of an eye. This stuff clearly has the potential to spread rapidly and comprehensively throughout an entire roster... And now Phils-yanks has been postponed/canceled while the visiting clubhouse is fumigated after Miami using it. If Marlins players tested positive, then I have no doubt we will hear of Phillies testing positive soon as well, as some of them had close contact with some of the infected players while on the field.
It's a bad situation with no other solution besides shut down

Those first three games were fun as heck while it lasted. Hopefully we get to see the Braves one more time tonight before it's all over.

Keep the talk about the game itself.
Political posts will be removed.

I say play through it, but again, that's just me.

I agree... I don't think shutdowns do much of anything.
I think they should do whats needed to get players up if some need to quarantine due to COVID, and play through it. Maybe make up a game or 2 at the end of the year if an individual game needs to be cancelled.
I've reconciled myself to the fact that we will all eventually get it.. 95% of us will not show symptoms beyond minor cold/flu like ones, and about 97% of those 5% that do worse will recover.
No arguing over that opinion or anything to make this a political discussion... just my opinion on the medical side and the possibility of shutting down baseball.

Yes, I think staying strictly on the medical side here, we can't hide from it, it's not going to go away, and we'll all get it at some point. That's the history of viruses. It has to run it's course. It can be medically argued that quarantining and hiding is harmful in the process.
My thing with the baseball players getting it is that they're all young, and we've not heard of a single athlete having serious issues with it.
I could see an argument for shutting down the games if you want to try to make it safer by avoiding "large" groups of people, but the odds are pretty good that these young athletes are not avoiding groups anyway and wouldn't if baseball was stopped. They're young, have a lot of money, a lot of free time, and probably feel pretty invincible. I really don't think the players will be any "safer" if they quit playing ball. Given the whole picture of this thing, we don't even have FACTS that say what's safe and what isn't anyway. I really don't know how you GUARANTEE you're safety no matter what. Aren't there people getting it who are staying home almost 24/7? There's too much unknown for me to believe there's any safety protocol that are foolproof right now.

I asked nicely.
If anyone wants to bring up political parties and the White House, please take it to the politics forum. It really is simple not to bring it up here.

We can use this tread again to talk about COVID's impact on game cancellations, but no more mentions about the White House, or mentions of political parties and such.

Member of the marlins organization has died from the virus. NOTE: It was NOT one of rhe members of rhe big league team who tested positive. It was the majority owner of their AAA Affiliate, Lou Schwechheimer was 62 years old.
I feel bad for that organization.
