Why not? Let's do it. Sounds like fun. Beisbol is beisbol. Tradition is screwed this year anyway.......

It’s better than no baseball at all and I’m getting the itch.

Remember this old tread - guess we can assume there there is no season in late June and the way its going maybe not even in July
Sadly, no one even cares even the old time baseball fans that we see on this board. People who have been fans since their childhood, going back to the 60's - and who can blame them
Guess I can look back at the memories and my sports reference looking over teams of the old days
I am sure I will go back cause I am a sucker for the game but the vibe is no longer the same
Guess I can fall back on the NHL and maybe football in the fall

Plan rejected. Now talking about a 50 game season. IMO, we need at least 100 preferably 120 for a legitimate season. We may never see Ozuna or Hamels in a Braves uniform and less years to see Albies, Acuna. Riley, Soroka and a host of others and just as the Brvaes have finally put it together with youth and veteran leadership. This sucks! Pfft...not interested in a lousy 50 games. sports.yahoo.com/mlb-rejects-players-114-game-183424246.html

Screw it.
A 50 game season is a joke and will never even considered legit.

Well, with a 50 game season at least anybody can win it
Even a sad sack franchise like the Seattle Mariners for example
I think it would be fun even if not really legitimate. They come back I will watch
What is sad is the other sports leagues can get together and come up with something that makes sense
Like Sears (where America used to shop) MLB is America's once upon a time National Pastime. In another generation our beloved sport will fall behind MLS, its not like the millenials are flocking to our sport
We are behind the NFL and before long will be behind the NBA if we are not there already
MLB can dump on a 60 something like myself, its in my blood but after the boomers pass on what is the future. Not good as I see it.
Would like for someone to have more hope and challenge and disagree with me, I welcome it -- give me something to feel good about. Its been an empty summer.

The problem is that owners are usually billionaires or multimillionaires and they run the show for the most part. They hold the ultimate tiebreaker. Remember how the NLF brought in the scab players in 1987? The owners can can fold the tent and move on to something else. On the other hand most of the players and fans will be the ones left behind. If I'm to make $10M and only play 1/2 a season I should earn $5M. If the owner only wants $4M should I not play? On the other hand, in the name of pro-rated fairness, are players forfeiting their pension service time by not working? Are they forfeiting free agent time time while not playing their required time for the team (i.e. free agent eligibility moved back by time not played)? There are are a whole host of things to consider. Veteran players were being paid nearly $5K/day during April and May. Most small business are laying people off not paying them during a pandemic.

I saw a debate in a another forum, I never paid attention to the final outcome, but they were analyzing the MLB owners claim that if they played a half season now they would lose 4 billion dollars. Upon further review, people claimed to find out that what the real case was is that they'd only make 6 billion dollars this year instead of 10 billion.
If they think it's a good idea to just call of the season they're going to lose a whole lot more than 4 billion in the long run. Sometimes in business you have to take a temporary hit for the good of the long term. They better think this through, they are playing with fire. They are poking a really pissed off beast (the fans) and just daring them to turn off to baseball.

I hope that Rob Manfred will be gone after his contract is up. Not impressed with him as a leader or as an ambassador for the game
Not to mention the punishment to the Braves for far less than the Houston Astros scandal, that was the most blatant.
Don't be fools and keep a fool around like the NFL has done with Roger Godell.
I will take a third of the season cause if the whole season is cancelled I do think it will be more adverse for the future of the game
Players union are no angels but both sides are being shortsighted.
Ya know, old Uncle Bud Selig was not that bad of a commissioner in his time. Not perfect but not that bad. He is the only commissioner I have liked to tell you the truth. Uberroth was not that bad, hated Bowie Kuhn and did not like Giamatti in his short time there and Fay Vincent was unlikable and did more to be an irritant than anything else

And yet all of them combined don't make up as much toolage as we have in hockey with Bettman.
