MLBTR’s Steve Adams raised an interesting question when the two of us were discussing Bradley: Would Atlanta and Boston consider a swap around Bradley and Inciarte? Both teams would come out with capable center fielders, with the Red Sox cutting some of their payroll for 2020. They’d get two years’ control over Inciarte, who’s due a guaranteed $16.025MM through 2021 (including a $1.025MM buyout for 2022).

Looking at next years crop of free agent pitchers it seems we will have to focus our efforts on one of the TOR pitchers this year. Keuchel’s comments certainly make it appear he doesn’t buy into being a brave and values himself highly, we likely move on. Cole, Strasburg, and Bumgarner have to be on the radar. Cole is not realistic and Strasburg might not be either. I could see AA making Bum a hard target.

Pffffffffttttttttt. Luke had almost a 6.00 ERA after the all star break. I’d give him a C+ Touki sucked goat ass the entire year. I’d give him an F I could give Tomlin an A- or B+ because he was real good at his role.

Yeah if you told me in April I’d be criticizing snit pulling Tomlin (early two times) in the NLDS I’d bet a grand against that.

My point was... does Tomlin's 0.2 WAR equal an 'A" grade?

My point was... does Tomlin's 0.2 WAR equal an 'A" grade? Considering the crowned closer (minter) had a -.8 war, I’d say a guy that was a mop up guy being over 0 is an “A”

My point was... does Tomlin's 0.2 WAR equal an 'A" grade? I think WAR is a tough number to go by with relief pitchers. I thought he did a good job for low man on the totem pole.

Snit wanted to get all "managery" and only pitched Soroka once (which I still contend cost us the series), but didn't bother looking at Tomlin's post-season success at all, apparently. Geezus, I'd stayed away from this, but then I think about OUR BEST PITCHER only going once, and it STILL pisses me off..........

My point was... does Tomlin's 0.2 WAR equal an 'A" grade? I think it can if you look at the expectations we had for Tomlin. I get the point that if grading on the WAR scale of course it wouldn't, but I'm not sure that's the best way to look at it. What we wanted out of Tomlin was just to be the mop up guy and he actually delivered on that and gave us a bit more. His effectiveness might not translate into WAR, but he did a pretty admirable job no matter what we asked of him.

Guys like him are always out there, and that's why I will never be a proponent of a big free agent reliever signing again. I was for the Braves bringing back Kimbrel, and boy was I wrong. I mean, hell, look at what Chapman did the other night. He set one on a tee for Altuve, and that was that. No, I'm not comparing Tomlin to Chapman, I'm simply saying that pouring big money into relievers is not normally a very good idea. I'm a bit concerned about the Braves being on the hook for Melancon's big salary next year. Hopefully, we can get lucky and he'll earn it.

Don’t forget Osuna blew it for the Astros before Altuve saved them. And I tried to warn you guys about Kimbrel! The way I look at the big dollar relievers....they are going to have 80-90 games they dont even appear in. I find it hard to justify the big money just based on that. Especially when you’re a mid market team. They’re worth their weight in gold when they’re on, but they tend to be up and down. If you luck out and get them when they’re on you look like a genius, but you’re a goat when they aren’t on and it’s pretty much a crapshoot. An expensive crapshoot at that. With Kimbrel there were at least very visible signs of regression in his stats for the last two years, then he sat around and put 20 pounds on and didn’t have a spring training. He’ll probably bounce back next year because he’ll be better prepared, but I don’t think he’ll ever be as good as he was in his prime.
