So glad the Braves are whipping the hated Nats. Looks like we'll win 100 games.

So the story is that Davey Martinez in all of his sympathetic glory, asked the home plate ump to appeal to the 1st base ump for the strike as Charlie lay there with his crushed orbital bones.
1st I would look at Martinez and say "really, dude??"
Then I would look at the 1st base ump and say "really, dude???"

I can’t think of a man who more deserves to be at the helm when the Braves capture their next World Series title than one Brian Gerald Snitker. Damn skippy. He's a dumbass sometimes, but he's our dumbass. As long as our extremely talented team keeps overcoming his stupid moves, I can live with him being along for the ride and being a great cheerleader.

Mark Bowman @mlbbowman Plate umpire Tim Timmons said he was focused on Culberson's well being until Nats manager Dave Martinez asked him to see if Culberson offered at the pitch. When asked, first base umpire Bill Welke said Culberson offered. Thus they called the strike.

Meh, I don't blame him trying to go by the rules, and help his team the best he thinks he can. They're just 1.5 up in first wild card now. It's all just unfortunate and Snitker reacted how someone emotional should. Let's just hope for the best for Culberson and move on.

That’s for darn sure! Wish I was as dumb as Snit, pulling in over $1 million per year (I'm sure). Yep, that's the kinda dumb I'd like to be. Fact is, coaches and managers are all dumb. Fans are smarter and know more about the games they're involved in than those guys could ever hope to know. Were I the manager, for example, the Braves would be sitting at about 130-20 right now, because all of my moves would have been flawless. One day, some really smart dude will hire a fan to run his team and the rest will be history.

Well see that is the sort of over-simplification and straw-man argument that always gets presented when there is some criticism of specific moves made by a manager. What I would like to see instead of the "Oh I'm sure ypu could do better" defense is to actually look at the criticism of a specific move that is being discussed, and defend that specific move. Littlebeast is the only one who has even attempted it with his "well there is probably behind the scenes stuff going on that we don't know anything about" comment.

I'm not defending anything. Managing a team is like any other endeavor; choices have to be made. Sometimes we make the right ones and sometimes we don't. Snit makes some head-scratchers sometimes, we all do. The bottom line is that he's pretty damn good at his job overall. I don't see that as a straw man argument in any way. As for fans, all fans of every team behave that way. It's just the way it is. I would have handled Camargo differently than Snit did. He might, too, given the opportunity, but he's won 2 straight division titles (almost anyway) and has a team that looks ready to take the next step. What more can a fan want?
