The new metrics are fine. They're an outgrowth of the technology we have more than anything, IMO. The computer made it possible to run all these numbers, and they're fine. I don't get into them very much, but that's just me. They're useful, I'm sure, but they can't tell you things like when a guy is locked in, or what might be going on in his personal life, etc. There are lots of things that affect players that can't be quantified, and that's where a good manager comes in. We give Snit hell, and usually for good reason, but look what the team has done with him at the helm. I seriously doubt that anyone could have done better than he has. That's completely unknowable one way or the other.
We can't see anything that goes on behind the scenes. I've acknowledged that Snitker should get credit for the way he handles the players. But it's also a complete unknown how much impact that has on us winning.
So it's human nature to criticize him when he makes stupid moves, because that is something we can see. And he makes a lot of them.
Bringing Luke into any close game in the 7th or later the rest of 2019 is a good example, but you can bet the greater majority of your ass we're going to see it a bunch of times.
Luke is getting murdered since the All Star break, and I find it very disturbing that a manager is so willing to ignore that.
And so on, and so on......
The troublesome thing to me is the fear of getting out managed in the playoffs, because one or two stupid moves can end our season.

I agree that Snit worries me as a postseason manager. Those games could expose his weaknesses, for sure. We do have the luxury right now to let Luke see if he can turn it around. He deserves that chance, but it's not looking good. O'Day may earn that spot. Then again, he may not. Only time will tell.

As for the regular season the past two yrs, one thing is for sure is you cannot do better than first place
And that is where Snitker has us - he has been the manager of two teams that have exceeded expectations
Even when he too over in the middle of 2016, the franchise was looking totally lost and they played respectably the last two thirds of that yr when he took over for Frego
The record speaks for itself. Yes, I am concerned about his loyalty to Luke, I do think he has gone on too long with him but that might correct itself
Tell me a manager that does not make questionable moves, it happened with Freddie, and even Bobby put out some lineups in the post season that would give one the second guess - like that lineup vs the Padres in the 1998 NLCS cause he was so loyal to his platooning system
Overall, its hard to imaging another manager having a better record in the time that Snit has been here
Who would you want, Bud Black or a career loser like Jim Riggleman. We will never know who would have replaced Snit has the old regime stayed and fired Snit so its moot but we could speculate what coulda happened
I like the results of the Alex Anthopolous Braves better - both AA and Snit did not screw the potential up.

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed over the last ten years of MLB playoffs, every manager has made stupid decisions. What it really comes down to is which manager is going to make the least amount of stupid decisions.

I agree with both of you. The problem is there’s so much more pressure on managers in the playoffs. So the last thing you want is a guy with a large history of stupid moves.

The Kimbrel "non-move" against the Dodgers was Fredi's chart-topper. You have to manage differently in the post-season.........you just do.

If Kimbrel were to die and go to hell, this would be his eternal fate.
