I find myself on YouTube from time to time watching "Top 10 Movie Fight Scenes" or "Steven Seagal, The Lies", and any other such tripe. It is fun to re-watch some of those scenes and clips....good lord movies were bad back in the 80s/90s but we didn't know any better, I guess.
Watching these YouTube clips led me to read the comments which argued about how Akido (I guess what SS was famous for) was the "weakest" of the MA in a street fight/real world confrontation. I found the whole discussion interesting, and it briefly pulled me away with my teenage girl obsession with Street Outlaws and their ilk.
I may give the JCVD a shot, also. Boy, he and SS didn't like each other.

Boy, he and SS didn't like each other. I should warn you JCVD is more of a drama type movie than a martial arts type deal but it's quite well done. Akido like Tai Chi tends to get a bad rap but both are very respectable martial arts imo if you can find the right teacher. It always comes down to that and of course no matter what art you study when it comes down to street fight so much obviously depends on how naturally tough you are too. It really is all about the teacher and it's been my experience that most martial arts just don't prepare you for a real life confrontation. I mean the arts themselves are all good and have immense value in discipline but it seems like too many teachers don't really straighten you out on what works and what doesn't. I had my brown belt in Kempo Karate by the time I was 12 and was quite good already. I had learned the katas, brought home many trophies and felt you know I was really starting to master this thing. Then I had a little sparring match with a friend of my fathers who was a black belt in Shotokan as well as a boxer and he absolutely destroyed me. And it was his hands, it was his boxing that did it. If you just had time to learn one art here I would probably go with the boxing first, get it down then add on other martial arts training. That's what I did anyway and it just changed everything. the rhythm. learning to really get hit, the foot work ...all of it.

I want JCVD to be a drama. If it was just another MA movie it would be much less intriguing.
What I enjoyed about Jean Claude Van - Johnson was the dramatic emotional aspect of him exploring his need for the JCVD “character”, and the fact that he displayed some really nice acting chops. It really got going about 3-4 episodes in, and the last 3-4 had some really solid emotional elements that rang true based on what I’ve learned about his life.

I'm not even sure why I watched it. It might have been up for an indie award and I remember reading it was something different and that show sounds like it's going with the same tone. I just watched that new Star Wars movie and honestly I could't be in a worse mood about the whole thing. I can't even talk about it without being a huge diaper baby. Angry, upset and almost in tears over a Star Wars movie...but it is what it is and I should have known better. I just so wanted Lucas to do these sequels but with Disney making this mess I'm out now. No way I'm watching the next one. And I mean it this time!! lol

The Last Jedi was terrible.
The one-off Rogue One was exactly 18.7 times better. The upcoming Solo will be 19.3 times better.

The Last Jedi was terrible. I don't think it inappropriate in this case all things considered to declare WORST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!! and I blame a certain set of the fan base for driving Lucas away with their ridiculous behaviour over the prequels which I thought were just as good as the OT Revenge of the Sith was an amazing work of art

agree. Rogue One was fairly average but that was OK with me and all I expected... plus Donnie Yen I know they will never be Lucas but whatever Last Jedi was supposed to be....ahhhh, getting angry again lol
not sure about the Solo film as Ron Howard is such a dry boring director

It's like they went out of their way in his movies to make it look like he couldn't fight and show none of his skills. These clips are better shot than his movies. I'd put all the blame of the directors but he did the MA choreography often himself.
