I’m honestly done speculating. I haven’t even been trying to keep up. I’m just gonna live by the credo I tell my students. You get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit.
They’re children.

We are going to sign Harper or Pollack and wait to see if we need a pitcher. We currently have 3 guaranteed starters and 12 viable candidates for 2 spots. We need to start seeing what our young guys can do. I'm also not opposed to giving Teheran on more(short) chance. If we still need an ace we can get one at the trade deadline.

The Dodgers will be signing Harper. Maybe. They are definitely in the hunt. The main reason I don't think it's the Dodgers is because he would rocket them over the luxury tax line. In fact it would be hard for them to field a competitive team for the next 2-4 years without being at the luxury tax if they sign him. They have been trying hard to avoid the luxury tax.

Merry Christmas!

I would bet that the Faillies really want Harper a lot, hence their open statement they are willing to get stupid with their money this offseason. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Faillies offered Harper and Boras a blanket statement of “whatever your best offer is we’ll top it.”the problem is Harper doesn’t want to play in Philadelphia, nobody would. And he very much wants to play for the Dodgers. The only delay at this point is Boras and Harper using the Faillies to milk every last penny they can from the Dodgers. Afterwards it will be made public by the butthurt Faillies that they offered more than the Dodgers did.

I can't figure out what the Dodgers are doing. They have power everywhere and they want Harper? Their defense is almost at the bottom of major league baseball. You'd think they would want to improve that first and foremost.

You'd think they would want to improve that first and foremost. I don't think it would be a smart move for them, but who knows how their minds are working, maybe they're star struck, lol. After all, Harper is the "lone superstar in the game today" as one writer put it.
They're already pretty loaded with LH power hitting with Pederson, Muncy and Bellinger. Maybe they're clearing the luxury tax limit so they can sign Machado, who knows. But I have read rumors that Harper does want to play for the Dodgers.

My question has always been.....why is Harper considered a superstar? He's still young and may yet earn that distinction, but he hasn't earned it yet.

I don’t know the answer to that, other than he’s been a media darling and a creation of their wanderlust for him. He had one monster year, and everybody acts like that’s what you should expect to see him do every year now for the rest of his career. He’s been a good hitter, a hack in the outfield, and I’d be willing to bet hated by his teammates. I don’t see anything so special when it comes to that dbag.

Once they have decided on a narrative, they by god stick to it, don't they? They decided early on that Harper was a superstar, and they're gonna beat that drum until hell freezes over.

To give you an idea on why Harper is considered a superstar by the media you have to understand that the reasoning is two-fold. The first reason being that he came in with a lot of hype, being a 1/1 pick and making his debut at 19. The second reason is that at 22 he become 1 of an elite group of players ever to accumulate a 10.0 WAR season, earning a rare unanimous MVP award in the process.
While he hasn’t been able to duplicate this feat over the last few years, many believe that he’s still capable of doing so.
He’s no Mike Trout, not even close. Trout is on a trajectory towards being one of, if not the, greatest player ever to play the game, but outside of him Harper would be considered one of the leagues best players.
