I totally agree with Mattingly. It's ridiculous.

I totally agree with Mattingly. It's ridiculous. Originally, it was to sell tickets for the lower teams as they brought up the prospects. Now, more teams have a potential for the playoffs -- with the Wild Card and all.

Starting pitchers have been conditioned to think that their job is to go 5 innings, and that anything beyond that is a herculean effort. It's been bad for the game, IMO.

Wait until the millennials take over. We no longer will be able to refer to players as "pitcher" or "catcher" or "1st baseman" or "centerfielder" and what not. Any such classifications will be considered demeaning. All players will be androgynous and only referred to as "fargleblargs." Each fargleblarg will be able to play anywhere on the field, and will rotate at will, including going to that hill in the middle of the infield and throwing the ball towards home plate. Umpires of course will still be dickheads.

He was like "who the heck wants a 3rd place trophy"? He's 10, so maybe that's a sign that this is turning back the other way. The right way.

I don't think so. It waa never the kids themselves that demanded participation trophies. 3rd place trophies and everyone gets a medal was a construct of snowflake adults and tofu eating psychologists.
I don't think the kids themselves have ever wanted to receive the same thing for losing as they do for winning, and their real feelings about it are largely irrelevant to those making the call.

Mikolas is a tough draw for us, Folty will have to be on. Mikolas was a great grab by the Cardinals, he has legit ace stuff.

I agree. The coaches and parents may not keep score, but trust me, the kids do. It's one of the main reasons why you play!
