UP NEXT: RHP Jake Arrieta (3-2, 2.82 ERA) starts for the Phillies while LHP Luiz Gohara (0-0, 1.29 ERA) goes for the Braves. Arrieta is 3-1 with a 2.76 ERA in five career starts vs. Atlanta. Gohara struck out nine and allowed one run in seven innings in his only outing vs. Philadelphia last season and lost.
TRAINER'S ROOM: Braves: RHP Anibal Sanchez (right hamstring strain) will make another rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. Sanchez was roughed up Monday night, allowing eight runs in 3 2/3 innings against Durham. Phillies: SS J.P. Crawford (right elbow strain) fielded grounders at extended spring training. ... RHP Pat Neshek (right forearm strain) played catch.
DIVISION DIFFERENCE: The Braves are 20-10 against NL East opponents. The Phillies are just 9-15.

Like I said before the series started, I didn't like the matchup in Game 1.. thought we could knock Nut PUbvetta out early, but we got lazy in the middle innings. I knew we could get to VV and I know we can own Jake tomorrow. Just need to let Jake get himself in trouble and he will.. I like us winning 7-3 tomorrow.

A couple of items from Braves history...we always seem to help those who need it....somehow.... 1945 The Cardinals trade three time 20-game winner Mort Cooper to the Braves for pitcher Red Barrett. The Atherton, Missouri native was dissatisfied with his salary in St. Louis and had threatened to leave. 2008 Six weeks after his successful thyroid cancer surgery, Diamondback hurler Doug Davis allows just one run over seven innings in an 11-1 win over the Braves at Turner Field. The 32 year-old southpaw joins Red Sox starter Jon Lester, who threw a no-hitter earlier in the week, to serve as an inspiration for cancer patients and their families. And from around MLB on 5/23.......... 1890 A National League record is established when the Giants and the Pittsburgh Alleghenys combine to steal seventeen bases in a single game. New York will win the Polo Grounds contest, 17-10. (I'm guessing Fangraphs was not around to tell the teams they should NEVER steal a base!) 1965 Mets' outfielder Ron Swoboda takes his position wearing a batting helmet - on his foot. After kicking the protective headgear, which gets stuck on his spikes, manager Casey Stengel ordered the young player to go out to the field. (OK...so self serving here...I ran around with Swaboda as 19 year olds when he was in the Mets farm system...good guy, got our bunch free tickets all the time) 2000 Mariners' outfielder Rickey Henderson draws his 2,000th career walk, becoming only the third player in baseball history to reach the milestone. Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Ted Williams are the only other major leaguers to have accomplished the feat.

Excited about Gohara's start tonight. Really think he can help solidify the rotation. He seems to have a lot of confidence and presence on the mound, a lot more than a typical 21 year old should have.

BTW, Swoboda made $8,000 in 1965. Times have changed a bit, eh?

Indeed they have...Ron could get pretty "emotional" when things didn't go his way, and I can only imagine the conversation between he and Casey...….as big and as powerful as he was, it's still somewhat amusing to me that he is best known for a defensive play!!! I'm assuming the setting had something to do with that. www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/miracle-met-ron-swoboda-world-series-catch-article-1.412239

Missed the last couple of games, but this one I'm watching from start to finish. Same here... I've been very busy and all I could do for the past 3 or 4 games was listen to the game in the background, or check updates on Gameday.
