Matt Kemp making the most out of his opportunity with the DodgersSo how long do we give it before he blows a hammy and then blows back up in weight. I really liked the guy when he showed up for us... I really like it when he came to ST in shape.. but face it, this is what he is now. I wish him the best, but I just think he's not going to hold up and the only real shot he has is to go DH in the AL... and even then I am not sure he doesn't have a quad muscle explode trying to get from 1st to 2nd.

I give him two months of attacking the players food tables and he'll be done again.

I wish him well, but for the sake of fun we should stary a Kemp DL pool.

I wish him well also---- there's little doubt he would have ever erased the pain of that skull-numbing trade, but he DID, for awhile, protect FF in the lineup and I believe (at least at first) he wanted to be a Brave.
He was worlds better than HO, and I hope he rebounds and can play 120-140 games a year.
Oh, yeah, and can Kazmir and McCarthy cobble together 16-20 wins between them? I doubt it.

One thing to remember about that protecting Freeman thing is that while it looked like Freeman’s stats with Kemp were much better than without, the “without” part included a horrible slump at the beginning of the season. Freddie had already shrugged that off and was on a tear before Kemp showed up.
Don’t get me wrong though... I am not dogging Kemp nor trying to minimize his impact when he first got here and the times when he was healthy.
I just don’t think he can stay healthy.

Kemp's OPS was around .650 for the last four months of the season and Freddie was just fine.

It's tough to argue with the latter half of Kemp's 2017.
He raked in 16, and was hurt most of last year.
It would just be nice if FF could have some protection on a consistent basis; I think he's a top 5 1B, a great Brave, and a class act.
Not sure if Tyler Flowers (no slam on him) is an adequate 4-hitter.

I just care that they help the games be watchable as we bridge into our younger pitchers coming along.

And if not for some fortuitous tweeting, I'm not sure what McCarthy's strengths are (I haven't checked his stats lately). But, he can't be any worse than Bartolo, and damn sure isn't 12 million a year. Also, did we ever determine what happened to R.A. Dickey? Did he retire and would we rather have him as a #4-5 than Brandon M?

Dickey retired.
I Would have welcomed him back for one more season to continue to be that bridge and mentor, but that wasn’t an option.

I'll never love WAR and defensive metrics. I will lose every argument with you, all day, every day about this and most saber discussions.
That said, I liked Kemp's bat (when he wasn't rolling his wrists and grounding weakly to short into a DP).
However, I do think its a sad state of affairs when our discussion revolve around a broken-down fat guy making 18MM a year to NOT play baseball, and our sorry options post-trade.
I hope like hell Acuna strikes out his first AB, so he doesn't get the Heyward curse (LOL).

The AJC rag never fully articulated if he retired or was non-tendered.....though it was alluded to that he was leaning toward hanging it up.
Anyone see or care that Chris Johnson doesn't have a job (surprise, surprise, surprise)!
